I just got the book last night too on my Kindle. I was so happy to see it. I can't wait to start this on May 1st!

So excited to read this one with everyone, I have really missed Papa Gwynne’s amazing world he creates for us. I am hoping that my pre-order physical copy will arrive by May 1st or I might grab a kindle copy of it too so I’m not too late :)

I'm still reading Malice at the moment ( about 75% in, had to slow down with it to read Empire of Vampire lol) so I feel like 2022 will be the year of Gwynne. I also see he dedicated this one to his little Harriett that passed few months ago, I read the dedication and promptly burst into tears.

I'm so impressed with Orbit's job on his paperbacks, they don't crack at all when you read them and still look brand new on the shelf, I read Shadow on Kindle but when I have extra cash I will buy the paperback, I want his works on my shelf so I can stare at the covers for years :)

I was watching The Nerdy Narrative on YT, and Lezlie just read it and was gushing about how much she loved it, she said if possible once you get to 75% mark to read the other 25% in one sitting then she said "mark my words and you're welcome!" lol...

I'm going to try to bully through my shorter BRs first then jump into this one--though I think it'll only take a day or two. Reading New Spring and Ghostwater. :)

Yeah the recap in the first few pages is gold, I wish more high fantasy books had that, super helpful!

One of John Gwynne's fabulous talents which I don't know whether to love or hate is his knack of ending each character POV, leaving me enthralled but frustrated and making me want to skip to the point where the character’s POV continues.

One bug-bear, I listened to the audio of the first - same narrator - about a month ago and seax was pronounced “sax”. I went onto some museum sites and found that yes "sax" is the correct pronumciation as I had always read “see-axe” in my mind. Now in book #2 suddenly the pronunciation has changed to “see-axe” and it pulls me out of the story every time. The inconsistency annoys me. Otherwise the narration is brilliant….
