Gabriel Allon #20. Fast paced thriller set mostly in Rome and around the Vatican and more closely tied to current events -- it was written during the global pandemic -- with the rise of populism and right wing politics. Reads more like a Dan Brown novel at times - see Angels & Demons - than earlier books in the series. For fans, it's a good addition, albeit a touch formulaic, and suitable for travel or vacation. 3.5 stars rounded up.

I really enjoyed this book. I like how it is not only fast paced but also minus the series' usual super dramatic turn of event. The little twist at the end also makes it an almost perfect read. 4.5 stars rounded up for me.
