Historical Romance Book Club discussion

For the month of MAY 2022, we will be reading HRs that feature LGBTQ+
- Romances with Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer, etc. MCs

Rules of Nominations :

1. Not more than 2 novel nominations per member.
2. Not more than 1 novella nomination per member. We will track novella nominations separately.
3. No book we have read as a group read in the last 2 yrs. (Please check the group's Bookshelf)
4. No author we have read in the last one year.

I thought so too. It was supposed to be enemies to Lovers for May.

Yeah according to the list Message 8 on this link https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... May is Enemies-to-lovers and June is LGBQT+.

Mods, do you want us to change our noms? Or maybe swap May and June over?

BTW @jenny867, if we do go with May for LGBQT+ sorry but I think your nom won't work because May 24th won't leave people enough time to read it. Just my opinion.

I am good with just switching the months and keeping May as LGBTQ+. I can update the trope thread.

King's Man by Sally Malcolm - m/m, have not read but have heard good things

Novella - The Companion by E.E. Ottoman - trans characters, 1940’s setting. Enjoyed the read.

A Lady for a Duke by Alexis Hall
I'm super excited about this book because I've loved the books I've read so far by this author. Unfortunately, this one won't be released until May 24th so I totally understand if that makes it ineligible to nominate. The book has a trans heroine who takes advantage of being presumed dead at Waterloo to begin a new life as her true gender. The hero is a childhood friend who was also at Waterloo and is struggling with coming to terms with the death of his friend as well as his injuries/memories of war.

The Gladiator's Master by Fae Sutherland and Marguerite Labbe
I don't know much about this book other than it caught my eye and it would count for Across the Ages (Ancient World/Prehistorical).

Novella: The Lion and the Crow by Eli Easton

These are both excellent! Although I will warn that Provoked reads like a serial, and I don't recall if it had its own HFN.

A Lady for a Duke by Alexis Hall - because not released yet. Note for future, it's best if nominations are already released at the time of nominating because publishing dates have been shifting quite a bit lately, so it likely would not have been a good fit for June either.

Pembroke Park by Michelle Martin - no reasonably priced option. Was a couple hundred dollars on Amazon and AbeBooks. Would be interesting though considering it was published in 1986! I went ahead and kept She Whom I Love in the mix since it was the original nomination.
