One of the challenged books (brief LGBTQ character appearances, mention of a gay nightclub, a kid beginning to be aware of questioning his sexuality, gay slur) about a kid longing to appear on Broadway is coming to Disney+ and stars Rueby Wood as Nate, with Aria Brooks, Joshua Bassett, Michelle Federer, two-time Tony winner Norbert Leo Butz, and Emmy winner Lisa Kudrow.

I had some issues with the novel (not the same issues the parents have) (view spoiler)[lying, stealing parents' credit card, going off to New York alone on a bus (hide spoiler)] and I'm dismayed that the boy in the movie is not Fat or particularly socially awkward looking. His BFF in this film is a beautiful Black girl and not another socially awkward teen. The musical in the book is E.T. but I guess the same plot could apply to that. (view spoiler)[Nate ends up getting the part of E.T. because he's short, fat and funny. (hide spoiler)] Looks like they updated it to include TikTok viral references. The book is very much a product of the author's 90's childhood.

I deleted Disney+ because there wasn't anything good I hasn't seen and now they keep coming out with new movies! I may have to see if my brother still has it and if he can log me in again.
