Not sure why Linky is being so persnickety these days, but I'm glad you were able to sign up. Great list of books!

Potential horror books
Doctor Sleep x Stephen King
Wizard and Glassx Stephen King
Fledgling x Octavia E. Butler
The rest will be mystery because I’m in a mystery mood these days.

I'm planning to read a Koontz or two, probably a Stephen King book, maybe Tremblay, perhaps something Lovecraftian.
Otherwise, I've been on a tear reading history books. I don't know if Holocaust history and War history counts as horror, but maybe kind of?

I read Ring years ago (after seeing the movies). I really liked it. I never did finish the series, but I still have the first one so I plan a reread at some point, and then maybe finish the series.

Glad to have you with us again, Joshua. Certainly war and Holocaust history can be pretty horrific. The horror you mentioned would be great too. All great authors. :)

"It" is a mixed bag, largely because of dated stereotyping issues, but there are some nifty cosmic horror descriptions, especially near the end, which never really made it into the movies. I still think Delores Claiborne is King's best novel, and I'd take Carrie or Needful Things or perhaps Pet Sematary over "It" in terms of the whole effect of the novel, but "It" packs a lot of punch.
The Anomaly lost something for me in the concluding section. The hidden conspiracy stuff just felt very fluffy, and the way the author kept killing and unkilling characters didn't maintain suspense for me. That said, the sci-fi elements were marvelous, and on a conceptual level, I thought the book was fascinating. So, I'd say, very fun and thought-provoking, but more mixed as a thriller.

Can you believe I haven't read Dolores Clairborne??!! So weird too, because I love the movie. Maybe I'll put it on my list this year.
My King favorites are Duma Key and Bag of Bones. Also Misery...and a recent one I loved, The Outsider. I really liked Needful Things too. Really, I pretty much like all of the books I've read by him, except for maybe The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon. Just didn't do it for me.
Yeah, I do remember feeling slightly let down at the end of The Anomaly, but not enough to make me dislike it. I really thought it was a phenomenal book. I will probably reread at some point. There is a second book, The Possession. Have not read it yet. Depending on how that one goes, I hope he continues with the series.

I am curious about The Possession too, and might very well give it a try.
As for King, honestly he's so prolific, we could all enjoy his writing and still not have read many titles in common. I haven't read Bag of Bones, Duma Key, or The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon...
I think his worst book is Song of Susannah, though I give him a bit of a mulligan, since he wrote it sort of in desperation to finish The Dark Tower while he was still in a lot of pain after being hit by a car. After that, I didn't like Lisey's Story, and Salem's Lot felt very self-indulgent and cheesy, though it did showcase some great fantasy ideas.
On the other hand, I think Firestarter is underrated, and seems to have inspired a lot of the ideas in the show Stranger Things, and I also think Cujo has a lot going for it. Cujo strays from its theme and wanders, but the meditation on domestic abuse both through active abuse and situational/control issues wrapped up in gender role norms was really evocative, and the book stayed with me for a long time after I finished it.

I have reread Bag of Bones and will probably reread Duma Key at some point. I remember it being one of the scariest books I had read by him at that point.
I have not made it through the entire Dark Tower series. I'm on Book Three. Hope to get back to it someday. I liked Salem's Lot, but didn't love it. Have not read Lisey's Story, nor Firestarter. I read Cujo when I was very young, so probably didn't pick up on the themes you mentioned. Perhaps I will revisit it. I thought of two more I'm not fond of...Pet Sematary and Christine. lol

On the Horror side of King, Christine is my favorite, and oddly, I adore the film.
Ditto with Pet Sematary and first film (with Dale Midkiff).
Of the Literary King,
1. LISEY'S STORY
2. DUMA KEY
3. BAG OF BONES
I haven't read BILLY SULLIVAN or JOYLAND

Sorry, Mallory. Not sure why with Christine, but Pet Sematary...the whole toddler thing...couldn't cope with it. lol The first film disturbed me even more than the book. Nice to see Duma key and Bag of Bones are favorites. I have yet to read Lisey's Story, but I plan to at some point.

Yes absolutely, Mads is an incredible actor!

Yeah, Mort isn't horror, but it's about Death, so it kinda counts?
Blood & Ivy is a fantastic read for those who enjoy richly painted history. It's not the sort of salacious, scandalous true crime that it's billed as, but the author does a wonderful job recreating early Victorian Cambridge high society.
Whispers was a big disappointment. I had never read a Koontz book and heard that he dallied into horror and was a bit of a competitor with Stephen King. This was just bad all around. Sexist, far-fetched, very weak prose, and a lot of cheesy, crumby romance/erotica. Definitely felt like it was inspired by Psycho and presaged Silence of the Lambs, both of which were better books, especially the latter.
Hope everyone's having a good month!

turned out to be more James Herriot than mystery, but an enjoyable listen ;)
