I was not a big fan. The narrator was pretty good but I got bored several times throughout the story.
The story follows a kid who is the son of a zookeeper. The beginning focuses on his interest in learning more about religion. The zoo that his father works at in India is closing and the family is moving to Canada. They are taking a cargo ship to transport the animals and move themselves. One night the ship sinks and the rest of the book is the story of survival.
I'm still a bit confused about what happened at the end. I'm not sure I liked the end at all. I think it could have been handled another way that would have preserved what happened earlier in the book.
Overall, I wasn't a huge fan. I never really had a desire to read this book or watch the movie, even not knowing what it is about. I'm way to empathetic for animals and it is already hard for me to read stories where some kind of harm befalls them. There were several sections that I skipped through due to the graphic descriptions. There were also several times that I was listening that I got bored. I wasn't engaged. I just wanted to finish so I could check this book off. I wasn't a fan and not sure I would recommend it to anyone. I would probably steer people I know away from it.
