In her teens, Cloris performed in weekend plays at Drake University. After high school, she attended Northwestern University School of Education, where she joined the Gamma Phi Beta sorority and shared classes with comic actors Paul Lynde and Charlotte Rae. 2. Cloris competed as Miss Chicago in the Miss America pageant in 1946. By placing in the top 16 contestants, she earned a scholarship that allowed her to study acting under renowned director Elia Kazan at the Actors Studio in New York City. Cloris then began her professional acting career on the stage. She was invited by Katharine Hepburn to co-star in Shakespeare’s As You Like It, which caused her to pull out of a play just before it reached Broadway. Other early-career highlights for Leachman were appearances in many 1950s live television broadcasts, a brief stint in Lassie, and as an extra in her feature-film debut: Carnegie Hall. Though she had a couple of small roles in feature films during these years, the early stages of her career continued to focus on television-show roles.

4. Cloris Leachman’s Golden Globe was earned for her role in the beloved situation comedy The Mary Tyler Moore Show. The arrogant, controlling Phyllis often swapped insults with another character named Rhoda. Both Rhoda and Phyllis were given spinoff shows named after their characters, Rhoda and Phyllis respectively.

All five children worked in show business for at least a portion of their professional careers, and granddaughter Anabel became a singer, songwriter, and record producer. Cloris and George were married over 25 years before divorcing on December 29, 1978. Their son Bryan died at the age of 30 from an overdose of a prescription medication in 1986. Cloris’s body was cremated, and her ashes now reside in her daughter’s home. Many fellow entertainers sent out social media messages of love, respect, and memories of their time spent with Cloris Leachman during their collective careers. Her manager, Juliet Green, summed up her career and legacy this way: “There was no one like Cloris. Did it on post #12 where I originally just said I was done.

Hi, JoAnne. One of the rules here in TLC is that "[w]hen you have finished, please re-post your whole challenge as a new message." (emphasis added) The reason for this is so that the moderators and other challenge hosts don't have extra time to scroll through the full challenge, even if message numbers are given, to find finished challenges.
Please repost the finished challenge in a new comment, and I'll get things checked. Thank you so much, JoAnne!
Andrea, JoAnne did repost her message!
Her original post was in Message 7 and her repost was in Message #12.

It was added in later rather than as a new message. I thought we weren't supposed to have to scroll up to find things. I'll go scroll up to check it. Thanks for correcting me.

Tasks:
1. Born on April 30, 1926, in Des Moines, Iowa, Cloris Leachman was named after her mother. Her father, Berkeley Claiborne “Buck” Leachman, worked at Leachman Lumber Company, which was family owned.
