APRIL TASKS 2022

One Point Tasks

1.1 EASTER EGGS
Read a book that has one of the following Easter Colors (70%+) RED, BLUE, GREEN, YELLOW, ORANGE, PINK, or PURPLE.
BONUS POINTS: You can read 4 more Easter Egg Colors to make a basket full of Easter Eggs

1.2 APRIL SHOWERS
Read a book where the characters are dealing with some type of weather: rainstorms, blizzard, severe heat etc. Tell us the type of weather -OR- read a book with an umbrella on the cover (show cover).

1.3 (Tessa's Task) CHILDREN CLASSIC: The Story of Babar
I have always loved elephants, so of course I loved this series of books. In the first book, Babar leaves the African jungle as a young elephant, making his way to Paris, where an elderly lady takes him in and educates him. Eventually he returns to the jungle and is made King of the Elephants. After Jean de Brunhoff died, his son Laurent de Brunhoff, continued the series.
PICK ONE of the tasks:
a) Read a book set in France or Africa.

b) Read a book from a series which was continued by a different person. You can read from either the ** original series, or the continued series. Tell us both author's.
BONUS POINT: if your book has an elephant on the cover. ( show cover)

1.4 FIESTA TIME
Fiesta is coming to a close on Sunday. We had 3 weeks of fun, fun, fun!!!
But on Saturday, there are 2 major PARADES: In the morning, King Williams Parade (2 miles long) and (in the evening) Flambeau Parade (3 miles long).
CHOOSE one of the following:
a) King Williams Parade (I'm marching in this one)
Read a book with the word KING, PRINCE, QUEEN, or PRINCESS in the title.
b) FLAMBEAU Parade (It's one of the largest night parade in US) Read a book with NIGHT in title. -Or- author's initials FIRST & LAST in word PARADE.

1.5 MC's FISH MARKET
Our "SPECIAL" of the month is OYSTERS
Choose one of the following:

a) There are 3 popular ways people like to eat Oysters: Raw, Fried, Steamed ( my favorite way) 😋.
Read a book with a title that has every letter of one these ways of cooking. (no sub-titles).
e.g. RAW - The Wedding Crasher
FRIED - In My Dreams I Hold a Knife
STEAMED - Some Mistakes Were Made

b) Did you know that not all oysters created pearls?
Read a book whose characters have something to do with pearls -or- the word PEARL(S) in the text (give pg. # and sentence)

1.6 READING THROUGH THE ALPHABET: LETTER T
Read a book starts with the Letter T (exclude A, An, or The)
BONUS POINT: You can read a second book that starts with T.

1.7 (Tessa's Task) EARTH DAY
Read a book whose author's FIRST & LAST initials are in EARTHDAY. Middle initials, if used, can be ignored. Initials maybe used only so often as they appear in the target phrase.

1.8 (Tessa's Task) THE READING JAR: JACKIE ROBINSON
On April 15, 1947 Jackie Robinson became the first African American to take the field in a major league baseball game.
Read a series book #1, #4, or #15.
Tell us the series name, and what number your book is in it.


Two Point Tasks

2.1 WHEEL OF FORTUNE
Read 2 Books
GO to WHEEL OF FORTUNE TASK for details. This is a time-limited task.

2.2 HAVE ARMCHAIR, WILL TRAVEL
Read 2 Books

Roadtrip through the US
This month's States:
NEVADA • MICHIGAN • MISSISSIPPI • NORTH DAKOTA

- pick 2 states
- read a book that is set on each state that you picked
- the majority of the book must be set in your chosen state.
BONUS POINTS: Read the other 2 States lefted for 2 points.

2.3 (Linda C's task) AUTISM AWARENESS MONTH
Autism a complex developmental condition affecting the patient's ability to interact, communicate, and progress, has not one but many sub-types. It occurs in one in every 54 children as of 2020 in the United States.
Read 2 Books
1. Read a book where a character is somewhere on the autism spectrum. You might find these lists useful:
Romance Fiction with characters having Autism or Asperger's Syndrome or Autism in Fiction
2. Read a book where the author's first and last name initials are in AUTISM.

2.4 (Linda C's task) JAZZ APPRECIATION MONTH
Jazz grew out of the blues era of the early 20th century mostly after WWI and heavily associated with New Orleans, LA.
Read 2 Books
1. Read a book that has MPG of Music OR has a musical instrument on the cover (if using this option show cover).
2. Read a book set in New Orleans, LA or set in the years after WWI but before the Great Depression (book may cover years before or after this but the bulk of the story must fit the era.


There Point Task

3.1 (The Adventures' task) APRIL, O APRIL
Read 3 Books

1. April 1st is Fool's Day!
But did you know that in some European countries it is known as "April Fish" (poisson d' avri in French, April vis in Dutch, or peace d'aprile in Italian)?
Read a book with a fish (or several) on the cover.
2. April is also when Easter is taking place! Let's look for eggs!
Read a book with an egg or an ovoid shape on the cover OR with egg(s) in the title
3. Easter also means chocolate!
Read a book with "chocolate" in the title or with a chocolate bar on the cover (show cover).

Five Point Task

5.1 YEAR 2022: APRIL
Read 5 Books

1-3. Spell-out: A-P-R
• use 1st letter of the title (exclude A, An, or The)
• use Author's initials (FIRST/LAST)
4. April is the 4th month of the year
Read a book a 4 in its page count -OR- 4th in a series (name series)
5. Read a book published in April (any year - list year)

. Don't forget your dates and page counts.

** A reminder that all books must be 100+ pages
If you plan on reading the original series you'll need to read several books to reach 100+ pages
For example: The Story of Babar (Babar, #1) by Jean de Brunhoff is 48 pp. The Travels of Babar (Babar, #2) by Jean de Brunhoff is 56 pp.
for a total of 104 pp. Then this would qualify for this task .
