NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11071 comments I read my first Virginia Woolf book, Mrs Dalloway, last year and I adored it. The writing, story and structure all worked together beautifully to tell a story that occurred in one day. It was an easy decision to reach for another.

I was on track to love this book as well. The writing in the first half was beautiful. The imagery, emotions, observations and ideas felt like they were nourishing my soul. I understood why some people say they can open one of her books on any page, and enjoy it. 5 stars

There was a change of mood in part two which was quite evocative. The third part however lost me. It felt aimless, repetitive and sometimes ugly. I reread a large portion a week later to see if I could capture some real meaning. I suppose I did, but I just didn't enjoy it. It averages out to 3.5. I notice that this one has lower ratings than many of her other books, so I'll be more selective when choosing the next book.
