What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

So I've been trying to remember the title of a book I listened to on Audible around 2015 or 2016. The plot includes a scientist that helped work on technology, or possibly the project itself and left, but was brought back to help finish it. The project was possibly in the desert in California where they were working on what they thought was Portal technology that allowed for Teleportation from one portal to another, however it was actually sending the user to an alternate dimension and another, alternate version was returning. In the beginning it was always something slightly different, such as thinking their office was moved and that one of the other characters had "pranked" them. As time goes on a more startling change occurs where the character comes through the portal all disfigured as if they had been living in a world where radiation had destroyed them.

In the end I remember something about the end of the world where an alien race or some sort of new species goes around destroying realities.

Any help remembering this book would be very grateful!

He finds himself in a world which is subtly different from his own. For one thing, Cinnamon Wright, his beautiful but cold African-American collaborator, is suddenly an ardent lover. Eventually she admits to him that, like the Cinnamon Wright from his world, she was Posted, and once worked for him in a world where he hated her, even though she was attracted to him.

I found this one in my own searches and was hopeful that it was it, however after reading the synopsis I know it is not. Closest I've found to it though. Thank you!
