Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12855 comments Final muses mini Challenge.

THINGS YOU CAN ADD WHEN LOGGING YOUR BOOKS TO MAKE LIFE EASIER:

- If the book has been on your tbr for more than a year, please add the date it was added.
- If you find any food items, please list some. (addition of page number/quote preferred)
- If your book contains song lyrics or poems, please list one. (addition of page number preferred)
- If your book has musical instruments on the cover or mentioned in the text, please list one. (addition of page number/quote preferred)
- If you're reading a book that you know has been read by another team member during the challenge, please say so.
- If your book is part of a series, please list series #

We don't have to make just the one chain of series #s, so the easiest is to make 4 chains of 1-4. If you're planning on reading a long series during the challenge, holler and we can make a longer one instead.

(Naturally, this applies only to books finished after 9pm UK time Friday the 15th of July. they can however be started any time during the challenge. Books used for Warships can't be used for Muses, and should continue to be posted only in the supergroup.)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12855 comments Hello fellow Trojans, welcome to team Hector (who we all know is the superior of Priam's offspring... ;) ). I'm Sammy and I'll be your co-captain this challenge.

I see a few familiar faces, but also a few folk I've not had the pleasure of playing with before, so I am giving you guys a heads-up.
I have a tendency to post up "inspirational" pictures from time to time during challenges, which usually tend to take the form of various actors and other eye-candy. These pictures are meant as a bit of fun, and I will only post images of people who have chosen to be in the public eye, and can therefore reasonably be expected to be ok with people admiring them from time to time. No disrespect is meant, as I said, just a bit of fun. Also, let's keep it clean (ish, lol), as we're a under-18s-welcome group.

Anyway, all that to say: If you feel uncomfortable with my posting said pictures, please holler or drop me a private message, and I will put them behind a spoiler tag. we want this to be fun for everyone. By the same token, if there are different people you'd like to see represented from the ones I post, also feel free to sing out and I'll use my Google-fu to find some!

And because we have one very fine example already for our muse, I'd like to start with this...

Claire | 4251 comments Hello everyone !

So happy to play Towers once more. :)

Some of you I already know from previous challengers, others I'm meeting for the first time now. Hello, nice to meet you all!

I'm Claire, from Brussels, Belgium.
I read quite diversely, but read mostly MM romance, UF, Fantasy and some YA here and there as well. But really I'm open to read almost anything.

I usually sign up to read a lot, but as previous challenges ended up to be a lot for me (putting me in a long reading slump), I signed up for less this time. This way I can also concentrate on some big chunkers instead of reading smaller books. I say that but I don't promise to read only big books either.

message 14: by Fi (new)

Fi | 324 comments Hi everyone!

I'm Filipa and I'm from Portugal.

I read MM romance, my favorite sub-genres are fantasy and historical but I honestly like them all, even poor plain contemporary. 😄 (And hi Claire, very excited to have another MM reader on the team!)

I hope I didn't goof on the sign ups, I put the average number of books I read in a month, not just chunksters. But I'm hoping to get through quite a few of those (I really needed an excuse to read them, poor things keep getting put off), starting with a reread of the The Cadeleonian Series so I can finally read the last two books.

My shelf

Sammy, that's some lovely inspiration! 😄

Lauri (otwlauri) | 1723 comments Aloha from Hawaii! I’m Lauri and I think this will be my 5th time playing Tower Teams! It’s come to be one of my favorite challenges. My shelf is NBRC-tt-2022. I’m a good utility player & voracious reader. I read multiple books simultaneously, but I don’t know why. :) I love historical fiction, mysteries, paranormal, but will read almost anything. I have a few doorstoppers planned — my most ambitious being Stephen King’s Under the Dome. No guarantees, but I’m going to give it a shot!

I really look forward to getting to know all of you and finding new books for my endless TBR pile!

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Hi team!

I'm Sonia, a tower team veteran, and I'm looking forward to play with all familiar and new faces.

I'm from near Lisbon, Portugal - Filipa we're finally in a team together!

My favorite genres are MM romance and Urban Fantasy. But I'm usually open to try new genres, even if I shy away from horror or classics.

After years talking about it, I finally joined a library, and since I discovered that reading translations sucks, I'm in a quest to explore the contemporary Portuguese authors - I hated all the classic ones during school years.

There's more about me, but let's not share all in a day.

Tomorrow I'll send friend invites and talk about captain stuff!

Claire | 4251 comments Sonia, I've recently decided to try the challenge of reading a book per country. I haven't read anything from Portugal yet, so if you have a good recommendation that can be easily found in english translation (or french), please send it my way :) Thanks !

Rosaline (Rosaline's Rolls & Scrolls) (rosalinesrollsandscrolls) | 54 comments Hello everyone!
I'm Rosaline, an avid reader of fantasy and drinker of tea. I read and enjoy many different genres, but fantasy fuels my soul. Especially the ones with badass heroines.
I think this is my first Tower challenge, but it could also be my second... I am not entirely sure as I have the memory of a fish! Either way I am super excited to be part of this team and read and discuss yummy books with you all.
And Sammy, what a glorious sight, thank you!

I haven't read the Tomás Noronha series yet, it's on the list for towers since books are around 500-600 pages, but I know they're translated to English. They call him the Portuguese Dan Brown, and like Dan Brown, it seems that the books can also be read out of order. But again... Haven't tried yet. Even if I have A Fórmula de Deus aka The Einstein Enigma on my shelf since it was published

I read a little bit of everything except horror.. I don't enjoy horror movies too.. I stumbled upon GR accidentally 2yrs ago but it has become a place of comfort and enjoyment for me lately.. I've made many bookish friends here and sign up for more challenges than I can keep up with.. Nevertheless I enjoy them quite a lot and really looking forward for this one!!

I have to mention Livro do Desassossego - The Book of Disquiet if you're into the classics at all. It's been ages since I've read it, but I've always loved Fernando Pessoa.

message 28: by Lauri (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 1723 comments Hey Sonia & Felipa — oddly enough I AM ethnically Portuguese (also German, Irish, Spanish & Native American) and am always looking for Portuguese stories! Of course, they have to be in English, because my Portuguese vocabulary is extremely limited…. So if you have any recommendations, I’d love some.

Hello hello everyone!

So many familiar faces and a few new ones. And already lots to read when coming online in the morning - just how I like it hehe.

I'll be a quiet co-cap this time around and will hopefully concentrate on some bigger books that have been begging me to be read for ages now. Which is why I signed up for less books, amongst other things. But we all know how that will potentially go once the challenge starts haha.

I mostly read fantasy. Then the odd romance/chick-lit, thriller/crime/mystery, historical... whatever catches my fancy really.

I have some time off in June where I really, really would like to finally dive into this doorstop: Empire of the Vampire (Empire of the Vampire, #1) by Jay Kristoff :-D

Hi all - Nice to meet you all, and see some of you again!

I started with Tower Teams II and then became a mod soon after (with Sonia for many years!).
I live in Sydney, Aus with my husband and 2 boys and run a HR consulting business . I read almost everything except Horror, and I'm not a massive Romance reader.
Looing forward to getting started :)

Tone Bardal | 146 comments Hello everyone👋🏻 I’m Tone from Norway and this is my second TT! I’ve been (un)patently waiting since last year😂 I loove seing so many MM-readers! I need you to gimme some recommendations because I read them all! I also love fantasy, historical fiction, romance, contemporary and of course smut!

Since the last TT i finished my MBA and started working so I don’t have as much time to read. I may have gotten too excited when asked how many books per month I’ll be reading.. but I’m hoping to get plenty books off my TBR!

I’m so excited to be playing with you all! Looking forward to all the inspirational pictures😍

I never read a book from Fernando Pessoa. But then again, my parents were Circulo de Leitores agents, so they stocked on all the classics, I even have the complete works of Ferreira de Castro somewhere, and ditched anything that on their opinion, wasn't worth it. My first issy fit about books was when they refused to buy the Lord of the Rings trilogy because it wasn't worth the price.

I have forgiven them, but as you can see I didn't forget. I ended up owning the trilogy, but not from the limited edition with the pretty hard covers.

I read the Prologue a while back and ... so good. So dark *grin*

It will not be a rainbow fantasy, but dark and gory and oh so bloody haha. So you'll probably definitely have to be in the mood! :-) Would be very happy to have you join me though! :-)

message 40: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Speaking of big commitments, my first book will probably be Apneia by Tânia Ganho

Apneia by Tânia Ganho

which is almost 700 pages. So it might take me a while. It's also a bit darker than what I am used to, and focus on escaping an abusive relationship and domestic violence. Which means that I'll probably will curl in a corner with some K M Neuhold or A.J. Sherwood after. Or maybe even some Ty&Zane re-reads because I need the comfort.

Plus, not dreading to go to sleep because you never know what crazy reality you will wake up to is a nice sensation.

I confess I sometimes miss the "why do you always do that when I am sleeping" or the way everybody run for cover when I started with "So, I've been thinking..."

I would complain, but I'm paid to be annoying and nit pick, basically a big pain in the developers' petunia. Life is good :D

message 49: by Sammy (last edited May 02, 2022 02:43AM) (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12855 comments Hey everyone, awesome to meet you all!

Now that the disclaimer bit is out of the way, lemme introduce myself. I live in Leeds, UK with my hubby and 19-y-o son. I also have a 22-y-o daughter who has recently moved in with her fiance.

I've been doing NBRC team challenges for a few years now, and have been a co-captain for most of that time.

I read pretty much everything, though YA and romance are not my favourites (I do still read them from time to time though, because there are hidden gems to be discovered, I'm certain!)

I am also the kind of complete nutter that will read nothing but doorstoppers for challenges like this (so far I've not planned a single book under 600 pages! Unless the June BOMs are interesting enough to tempt me, lol), as I have this tendency to push myself beyond what I should in the name of a challenge (a couple of weeks ago I walked over 25 miles in a day on a gimpy foot in order to win a Fitbit challenge. seriously, I need professional help!). Sonia is in charge of not letting me read 25x 1000 page books per month this time, because that isn't healthy for me or my family (poor hubby and son almost staged a revolt last Wheelathon! lol).

Whatever you guys do though, I urge you not to try and keep up with me in that regard, unless you normally read like that too. You're to read what you want, of whatever page length you fancy and just ignore the crazy person in the corner that's ignoring real life in favour of fictional ones for the duration of the challenge ;)

Oh, and I'm also very much a planner! And I'm usually pretty good at sticking to my plans too. Occasionally I may change my mind in favour of a particular mini task, but for challenges like this one, I will generally favour page count over anything else. So don't be surprised if you see a list of 10 books appear in the planning sheet with my name on them, and don't feel you need to follow suit! If you want to read what you want to read and see where it fits after, that's 100% ok too! :D

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12855 comments Oh, and I'm going to be MIA this week, as I'll be off on holiday in a couple of hours! I'll be back on the 9th, so in plenty of time before the mayhem begins! :D
