Beth (rosewoodpip) | 2003 comments Started reading this one today. It almost felt like a neighborhood story to start with, but didn't take long at all to go to... other places. It's handling some distressing subject matter in a matter-of-fact way. There's a pretty straightforward connection between St. George, and Hadi's part of the story--the epigraphs at the beginning of the book make it clear.

I noted immediately in Ch. 9 that Whatitsname seems to be headed for a (view spoiler) problem. (view spoiler)

But there's been a new wrinkle in his story and it's hard to say where this is going now. Quite an interesting book.

I've only just started, but I'm super enjoying it so far. Such a great ensemble cast. I'm interested/terrified in learning more about all of them.

Meredith | 1778 comments I read it. I liked it. I have been chewing over my thoughts about it for a few days.

I liked the 'slice of life' style, seeing the different characters living their lives while also being in the extreme situation of city occupied by military forces and the constant threat of violence.

I also liked the aspect that (view spoiler) I appreciated the section (view spoiler)
