Finally finished (with a lot of skim reading) The Song of the Lark. I loved the other 2 books in this kind of a trilogy (O'Pioneers and My Antonia) but didn't like this one beyond the first few chapters. No wonder I kept shoving it aside. The MC was very cold, Dr. Archie had a creepy (IMO) obsession with her and her music.

I am loving A Long Petal of the Sea though.

Finished The Selection (The Selection, #1) by Kiera Cass and The One (The Selection, #3) by Kiera Cass

Rhonda | 177 comments Finished Soul Making The Desert Way of Spirituality by Alan W. Jones . I gave it 4 stars because I found it interesting & gave me things to think about. It wasn't 5 stars bc it had sections that were unclear with quotes and ramblings that didn't seem to go anywhere (ie. the point being made was not clear).

The series thing is addictive. I'm in a team challenge in another group where you get three tasks, and you can read for whichever task you want. You get points, but the catch is the tasks are rated differently based on difficulty, and you don't know what the ranking is until after that week is over and the books are read. So the first week the highest-point task turned out to be "read a series #4 book" and it never once dawned on me that that would be considered the hardest task. I must have 40 "#4" books pending on my TBR somewhere. They're like glitter: no amount of vacuuming will get rid of them. LOL.

It certainly looks like an interesting read. I put it on my TBR, will check my local library and hope the ramblings don’t distract me.

I've finished three of my picks so far - Nothing Serious (Blandings Castle, #7.5) by P.G. Wodehouse which was humorous but not as funny as his Bertie/Jeeves books (those set a pretty high bar...) and, if you like historical mysteries that aren't all shrouded in atmosphere and background information, I highly recommend Stealing the Crown (A Guy Harford Mystery #1) by T.P. Fielden and Burying the Crown (A Guy Harford Mystery, #2) by T.P. Fielden . I raced through them yesterday. (Too much "shrouding" and background information are the two things I like least about historical mysteries so these were refreshing! I like enough history and background to understand the situation and give it context, and after that shut up already! :) )

I read How Lucky by Will Leitch . It's a very awkward book, but in a good way. It's a unique story. I gave it 4 stars. Honestly have no idea how to review this book. 🤣 But I liked it.

I read that years ago, Eileen. I used to work for a magazine affiliated with a non-profit that handles the 9-1-1 industry, and our keynote speaker one year was John Walsh. I vividly remember when Adam disappeared -- we were living in Florida and my parents' best friends had a kid named Adam who was just Adam Walsh's age -- and the things John and his wife did as a result of that tragedy are admirable.
