RULES
✧ Books must be read and reviewed during May 1st through June 30th. Any books or audiobooks started before May 1st or finished after June 30th will not count.
✧ If you read an Audiobook version of a book convert the hours to pages using this site: https://alamantus.itch.io/time-to-page or use the print equivalent on Goodreads.
✧ Graphic/Manga novels are accepted but will only count for half of the listed page count
✧ You must post at least 3 status updates OR a review. It doesn't have to be super detailed but try to not just say "this was good" for the book to count.
✧ For prompts: if it doesn't fit, it doesn't fit, and it will not count.
Minimum Lengths:
• Books: 150 pages
• Graphic Novels: 200 pages (halved=100 pages)
• Audiobooks: 150 pages (use GR print equivalent length)

POINT SYSTEM
+1 point for every book that has been read and reviewed that correlates with a prompt
+2 points for participating in a buddy read (must take place in the group)
+3 for one completed category
+4 points for reading/participating in a group read (must take place in the group)
+5 points for every 1,000 pages read

Hey Rosina, I'd love to read The rose code with you
its been on my tbr for so long, I need a reason to finally pick it up

message 9: by Rosina (new)

Rosina | 330 comments ok great...when do you want to start and what pace....I'll look at the chapters later on and see how long they are...
I'm good to start any time.

message 10: by Rosina (new)

Rosina | 330 comments Hafsah
There are 85 chapters & an epilogue.

For me a fast pace is 100 pages a day....Balancing work and social time I think I could manage 50-60 pages a day. My kindle edition has 623 pages ....so that would be about 10 days.
Would that work for you?

I will go and request a BR thread be setup and we can update with details later. Maybe others might want to join.

Amber (ambersworld08) | 41 comments Yep! I can do that for sure. I was looking at trying to do it by chapters (which would come out to 7 chapters a day) to make it easier to track but, it looks like it might be close to a 100 pages at times. Would that be manageable for you?

Is it? I'd never heard of it until another book club I am in picked it as our May read. It sounds like something I will like so I am excited to try it.

Absolutely! And yes, it is ver intimidating. I was getting all my books around and ready to go for taking notes as I read them and was very surprised to find that it was only 5 pages longer than Crescent City. It looks massive compared together! What time period works best for you? Would you like to read in 2 weeks or over the whole month?

Absolutely! We can all tackle it together! We will definitely be starting June 1st. Im ok with trying to read it in 2 weeks but, I want to make sure that Hafsah would also be ok with that as well or if she needs more time. Does that work for you or would you like more time?

I am the same way so I totally understand. I get frustrated at life for getting in the way of my reading all too often. Lol! I have too many unfinished books because of this very reason.

laurel [the suspected bibliophile] (laurelthereader) SPRING FLING STARTS MAY 1ST

I'm so happy so see you all talking and coordinating plans! You are all off to a great start. I do have a couple of notes/best practices before we kick off.

1. To see everything in the thread, use your internet browser not the app. The phone app cuts off comments.

2. Aless has set up discord channels for each team for your use. If you're not a discord fan, I recommend creating an Instagram chat group with all of your teammates for faster communication.
https://discord.com/invite/3hBXPyt2Fa

3. Buddy and Group Reads:

Like last year, we are expecting participation beyond "the book was good" for Buddy and Group reads to count. Mina puts a lot of time into creating the threads.

With that being said, anyone can participate in an open Buddy Read without being added as a participant. If there is no meaningful participation, it will not count.

If your buddy is not participating, that's okay, it happens. Continue to comment in the Buddy Read thread. We will count it for the participating member.

Lastly, I'm so happy that you all are requesting BRs to be made—but please don't expect them to be instantaneous. Please allow up to three days for the threads to be created.

If you have any questions, please continue to address them in the Sign Up thread—it's easier for us to catch that way.

Thank you all for joining us for Spring Fling—I hope you all have a lot of fun!

Rosina | 330 comments Hi hope all are having an enjoyable weekend.

Tomorrow starts Spring Fling.
What book are you going to start with?

I will be doing a BR of The Rose Code by Kate Quinn with Hafsah. Looking forward to this one. Been sitting on my TBR for a bit.
I will also be reading the BOM Anatomy A Love Story by Dana Schwartz and will try to stick with that schedile.
Mid month i have another 3 month challenge at NBRC starting and books here can work for that challenge.

Amber (ambersworld08) | 41 comments I was feeling bad for being MIA this week but, now I see everyone else must be busy reading too! I haven't gotten to read as much as I like this week because it's been a stressful week and I just ended up falling asleep as soon as I sat down. I plan to make up for it this weekend though after I finish the last bit of homework I have! I went book shopping for my Mother's Day gift to myself and came home with.....

Book Lovers by Emily Henry A Shadow in the Ember (Flesh and Fire, #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout and Book of Night by Holly Black

I am super excited for all of them but decided to read Book Lovers this weekend as I have been waiting for it to come out.

SPRING FLING update 8 May 2022

We try to post updates each Sunday of this challenge for teams and solo participants. It might not be Sunday yet in some parts of the world but this is for consistency purposes.

TEAMS:
Full of Secrets: 79
We're a Mouse, Duh!: 23
The Plastics: 66
You Go Glen Coco: 29
Personally Victimized by Regina George: 35

You Can't Sit With Us!

Laurel: 9
Rosky: 4
Allyson: 10

It's our first weekly update! Woohoo!

If you're feeling a little behind, that's okay! In the past it's not always the groups that jump ahead in the beginning that win in the end. Points can change dramatically from week to week—the goal is to keep reading, keep posting updates, and rack up those bonus points!

Four housekeeping notes as we roll past our first week:
1. Please plan for your Buddy Reads to start at least 3 days after you request them.
2. Don't forget to put the prompt category and number in your completion post. It helps us out a lot!
3. If you are participating in a Group or Buddy Read, don't forget to post in that thread!
4. Have a question? Ask in the sign-up thread (because other folks might have the same question)...and check to see if anyone else has asked the question before :)

Happy Spring Fling
