'The Burmese Harp' (1956) by Kon Ichikawa. A classic of world cinema.

The scene where the protagonist hides inside a forest statue of a reclining Buddha.

Where is this location, in real life?

John | 83 comments Seems to me right wing attitudes exist sort of in nature. I think they grow out of fear and can tend towards cruelty depending on the degree of fearfulness. Have I picked up the correct end of the stick?

Well I'm still seeking the location of that buddha shrine, but your speculation is interesting

John | 83 comments Seems like reclining buddhas in forest setting are not uncommon

The world's largest reclining Buddha, the Giant Buddha of Mudon.

John | 83 comments lots of photos Feliks when you google something like "reclining buddha in forest Burma". Maybe you'll recognise it.

Yes indeed, believe me I browsed through many such photos and tried many different keyword combinations

This one in the film certainly doesn't seem like it's the world's largest; it's just the size of maybe a Winnebago or what Brits call a 'caravan'(?)

Anyway since its not noted for as the #1 in the world, this is maybe what makes it hard to pin down

Thanks though, for your efforts on my behalf!

John | 83 comments I realize it would be discouraging, sorry, but could it have been just a movie set?

message 15: by John (new)

John | 83 comments yes, I'm sure you'd have almost worn the letters off a keyboard with searching
