Nightmares and Dreamscapes discussion

We the mods have decided to choose the horror genre for the Big Buddy Read that will start June 1st. We will not put an end date on these reads as we feel that no one likes to be crunched with their reading time. If you start late that is fine and you can finish the read whenever.

We will be reading the book, Dracul by Dacre Stoker.

Story synopsis:

The prequel to Dracula, inspired by notes and texts left behind by the author of the classic novel, Dracul is a supernatural thriller that reveals not only Dracula's true origins but Bram Stoker's--and the tale of the enigmatic woman who connects them.

It is 1868, and a twenty-one-year-old Bram Stoker waits in a desolate tower to face an indescribable evil. Armed only with crucifixes, holy water, and a rifle, he prays to survive a single night, the longest of his life. Desperate to record what he has witnessed, Bram scribbles down the events that led him here...

A sickly child, Bram spent his early days bedridden in his parents' Dublin home, tended to by his caretaker, a young woman named Ellen Crone. When a string of strange deaths occur in a nearby town, Bram and his sister Matilda detect a pattern of bizarre behavior by Ellen--a mystery that deepens chillingly until Ellen vanishes suddenly from their lives. Years later, Matilda returns from studying in Paris to tell Bram the news that she has seen Ellen--and that the nightmare they've thought long ended is only beginning.

I have too much on my TBR to re-read this, but I highly recommend Dracul. I listened to the audiobook & loved it!

I haven't read Dracula's Guest yet. I loved Dracula though. :)

@Marie: YES!!! LoL thanks and apparently, Dracula's Guest is rumored to have been the first chapter of Dracula or something of that nature. I think it's a very short read!

I have my book ready to go to - I grabbed it from the library as I was worried someone else might grab it and I didn't want to be without it. The library only had one copy of it - so better to be safe than sorry! lol :)

Getting a jump start on this today because I have the day off.

I started this today as well. I’m a huge Dracula fan and was very skeptical but so far so good!

I might be starting this in a day or so - I have tons of reads for June and I am trying to get a jump start on a few of them! It is going to be a busy month! LOL

I’m also going to jump on this early since I’m also reading two other books. Let the vampire rumble begin! LOL

I’m about 40% in and this is a good one. (view spoiler)[ I love that the three siblings are trying to solve this together. I love a good Scooby gang! (hide spoiler)]

I also love the name Thornly. It sounds so British but if I were to have another son (which I will not) I think Wesley and Thornly would go great together.

Thornly would be a great name for a pet porcupine or hedgehog!!

I'm about 110 pages in and I am thoroughly entertained! Definitely some creepy stuff going on, this is fun!

I am 100 pages in. The journal is fascinating but the "now" is really creepy and I am already getting weird dream vibes from it which I don't know what that means exactly as long as I don't have vampires chasing me in my dreams then we are good! LOL

Marie, your comment made me laugh. I was having vampire dreams last night too. WTF...

It's so weird because I usually don't have dreams about the subject of the book that I'm reading. This one is bringing in all the creepy vampire vibes while I slumber. hahaha
