A good friend of mine (not to name any names... Angela) brought up the idea of having a discussion for authors. So, here it is :)

I'd like to discuss anything book writing related...

*~*The Death Fairy Luna*~* (edwardlovesmeforlife01) i dont write books but i am a poet.

Yay! There are some of us in here :) If you like to write and have hopes of becoming published, then this is where I'd like to have a discussion. If any of you ever have a question or just want to share your grief (lol) than here is the place. Others who are going through the same kinds of things. I think that was Angela's hope for this discussion.

Angela Corbett | 19 comments Yay! I'm so excited to know other authors in the SM group! Thanks for starting this discussion Angee!

Jennifer, is your book Angel Star? I read the summary and it looks really good! I added it to my to-read list. Gothic Angel, do you post your poetry on goodreads? Meg, I think writing for fun totally counts! Jennifer Twilighter, what is your book called and what is it about? Angee, I'm almost done editing your book! I still have a two chapters to read but the plot is really good! :)

My book is called Eternal Starling and it's a paranormal romance. I'm currently in the query process. I have one agent who asked for the full manuscript a couple of weeks ago and I'm trying to keep calm while I wait to hear back from her. :) Jennifer and Jennifer Twilighter: did you just query agents or did you query publishers as well?

message 12: by Jennifer, Twilighter (last edited Oct 09, 2009 01:45PM) (new)

Jennifer Salaiz (jennifersalaiz) | 37 comments Mod
I sent my query to the publisher. Within weeks I was contacted and asked to change my story from first person (which I prefer), to third person. As you can imagine, I was so excited at the opportunity that I jumped at changing it.

I write paranormal romantica (erotica with romance HEA)My book is called Passion Projected and involves werewolves, as does the second book I signed a contract on titled, Stalk Me.

Jennifer, I marked your book as a to-read. It sounds really good! Can't wait to read it!

Wow! How long did it take to revise it from first person to third? Did the publisher offer you a contract before you revised it? Do you have a website where I can read more about the books? They sound like something I would enjoy. I'm currently reading the Anita Blake series by L.K. Hamilton.

Jennifer Salaiz (jennifersalaiz) | 37 comments Mod
OH! I LOVE the Anita Blake Series! Anita addict, here lol.

It took me about three days working nonstop to revise the whole book. Plus, I added and changed a lot. Yes, they offered me a contract on the term that I change it to third person since they sell better.

http://www.jennifersalaiz.com/ This is my website. If you go under my Writings page it has a blurb of Passion Projected.

There's also a link to my page on my publishers site if you click purchase now (although you can't purchase anything yet, so don't worry, lol) The book should be coming out at the end of 09 early 2010.

Just thought I would throw this out there for aspiring authors or anyone who might be interested to know.

If you go to the passionatepen.com, I believe ( I know it's The Passionate Pen), Jenna Peterson has a great list of Publishing Houses and Agents with info on Submission guidelines and Agent info. It's a great site! I go there for anything writing related.

Hope this helps anyone out who might be lost when it comes to submitting to anyone. I know I was completely lost when I first started. Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Wow this discussion has blown up since the last time I got in here :) YAY! I'm really glad!

@ Jennifer, Twilighter: I had no idea you were an author!! That's awesome! I'm a fade-to-black type of gal or else I would be all over your book. I feel horrible because I want to support authors as much as possible! Maybe I can just buy a copy anyway :)

@ Angela: I'm glad you gave me this idea to start this discussion! This will be a very helpful tool, I think. Thanks for meeting up with me this weekend to go over my book! I just had one of my friends finish reading it and she said she actually cried!! I'll have to post her email because I was SO excited and flattered! lol.

@ Jennifer Murgia: I'm so excited for your book to come out! It sounds REALLY good!! Glad I could help spread the word about your book!

I don't know if anyone would be interested, but I have my Prologue and first five chapters on my website Cavanaugh Academy. Let me know what you think :)

message 32: by Angela (new)

Angela Corbett | 19 comments Angee, it's great you got your website up! I'm glad your friend liked the book so much. Are the chapters and prologue on your site the revised ones?

message 33: by Angela (last edited Oct 12, 2009 11:29PM) (new)

Angela Corbett | 19 comments Okay girls, I've been waiting for my copyeditor to through my book, Eternal Starling, and now it's almost done! If you want to check the book out, you can read a few sample chapters on my website. I posted some of the chapters on Goodreads a couple of months ago, but the updated chapters are all on my site. www.angelacorbett.com :)

Angela, loved the site! I was looking through your playlist you listened to whenever you wrote your book. I noticed we share a lot of the same music in common. I love Muse and Seether. My puppy's name is actually Muse because of my love for them.

I can't wait to find out who she picks. I'm so obsessive over books that I will probably drive myself crazy until I get a chance to read it. LOL

Hope everyone is have a great day!

Yes, I have my revised chapters on my website :) I still need to make a few changes, but those are the most updated version and will continue to be as I do my next drafts.

Is it weird that I am using my maiden name for my website? Hansen is a very common last name and Saxey isn't so I figured it might be better.

Jennifer Murgia (jennifermurgia) | 22 comments Angee, I just read your prologue! It completely sucked me in! Will make time to read the rest later. I love the voice you project in your writing - it's tentative and emotional.
Your website looks great, by the way. Love the colors and the "handwritten" quote on the home page.
Saxey's kind of cool - why would you question it?

I'm so glad that you liked my prologue!! I think it has a different tone than the rest of the book, but that's because she is in a different emotional spot than the rest. Poor thing... I put her through the ringer. lol.

It was hard for me giving up the last name Saxey when I got married for sure. But I guess now I get to write with it, so I'm good. :)

Thanks Jennifer! And thanks for looking at my site! I'm so glad you liked it! Aren't Seether and Muse fantastic? I love Seether all the time, but especially when I'm in a bad mood. LOL :) That is so cute you named your dog Muse!

I had 15 beta readers and they seem to be pretty evenly split over which guy they want Evie to end up with. I wish I could post more chapters so you could be introduced to Emil.

I'll have to check out your updated version. :) I think it's great you're using Saxey! Like I said at dinner, if I had a name that cool, I never would have changed it! I just had time to glance at your homepage last night but the site looks really good! :)

LOL, I know what you mean about listening to them when you're in a bad mood. I'm the same way. Muse is more of my writing and driving music. All right, it's my all the time music.

Well I got some good news on my book. Siren has set the release date for Oct 30th and I got the cover in. I'm so excited. Today has been great! I'm posting my cover in my goodread pics right now. Yea!

@ Jennifer: YAY!! That is SO exciting! Is this your first novel? How long did it take for you to...

a.) Write your book?
b.) Edit?
c.) Find a publisher?

Congrats again! I can only imagine how you must be feeling!

It took about a month to write it. Editing was done the month following that one. I'm doing final revisions as we speak, lol. It seems that process is never over.

As for the publisher, well I have a really good friend who happens to be an author, Tara S. Nichols, and she's the one who pointed me in Siren's direction. Which I couldn't be happier. They're a great group!

All I'm doing is watching for my publisher to write me back and I'll be starting up my author profile. It's very exciting! Thank you all so much for the support!!!
