I'm not sure what took me so long to finally read something by Amor Towles, but it was probably because I wasn't sure how much I'd like his writing. Obviously, I did, because if I take apart certain things this wouldn't add up to such a high score, but not only is the writing wonderful, but it all works together just marvelously. I finished this last night and instead of going down to 4, it just went up in my memory because looking back on it as a whole makes a lot of sense.
I read this over some time since I had other books going and at times I just wanted a break from it--not because it is bad, but it's that sort of book for me. It turns out that the hotel the main character is sentenced to house arrest in for life is real--I learned this from another review (thanks, Negin! here's the review with photos, plus it's a really good review that will tell you more than I am (in fact what she gave 5 and 3 too were almost what I might of at one point, but then it all just worked for me https://www.goodreads.com/review/show... )
