Hello Vics!
We are undertaking a bit of spring cleaning here within our folders. This group has been around for over 10 years, and we think a bit of streamlining is in order to ease the navigation of the folders. To that end the formerly known folder “General Chat” has been renamed “Conversations in the Parlor”. The primary purpose of this is to move all non-book related (side) discussions into one folder. The secondary purpose is to consolidate the discussions. For example, if there are two or three discussion threads on, say, the author Charles Dickens, then I will “consolidate”. Unfortunately Goodreads doesn’t allow moderators to move individual posts from one thread to another. Only the initial poster can edit his or her comments – and that’s a good thing! The workaround is to make a judgment call and keep one of the discussion threads live and lock the others. All posts are still there for folks to read, but only one discussion thread will be used from now on.

What’s changed so far:
1) If you scroll through the “Conversations in the Parlor” you will see a number of discussion threads locked. Some of these were already locked. With the others the discussion is dated and no longer relevant, but folks still might find them interesting. Plus, in many instances current members of the group have commented on them. If anyone wishes to continue a discussion in a locked folder, just let us know, and we’ll unlock it for you, or you can open a new discussion thread.
It is not our intent to remove older content because it is old. Here and there are truly dated and no longer relevant discussion threads, and I’ve only removed three so far. They were very specific questions by individuals for a survey or project taking place outside the group with no or only one or two comments.
2) I have started to move discussion threads from the “General Vic Era Discussions” into “Conversations in the Parlor”. They are easily recognizable, as they have “Victorian” in all their titles, and if they don’t, I can rename the title to make it clear. Once the transfer is completed I will delete the folder.
3) By default all discussion threads that have been moved from one folder into another are listed in order by the last date a comment was made. In other words, they intermingle with what’s already there. This is why I will make sure the title of these discussion threads will be clear and edit if necessary. More on that later.

I will keep you posted as we progress through these folders with side discussions.

The "Not strictly Victorian" folder has now been incorporated here. You can recognize the different discussion threads by:

Not strictly Victorian: ...
