J. L. Friday (jlfriday) My favorite book of all time, Wade was confirmed autistic by the author in an interview:

Ready Player One by Ernest Cline

I thought that Halliday was autistic.

Autistic Book Club Admin | 196 comments They definitely both could be! (Wade & Halliday) But has anyone read ‘Ready Player Two’? If so, was it as good as Ready Player One? I haven’t read it yet because I read some reviews that weren’t terribly nice!

I have tried to read it. It wasn't very good I DNF it.

J. L. Friday (jlfriday) Right! So Halliday is canon autistic from the first book. Wade was confirmed in interviews AND if you read Ready Player Two, you will see his sensory sensitivities come out and he has a meltdown as well.

The second book was not overall well received, no. I enjoyed it very much, though I could see where there were technical problems with the story. I do NOT agree with the reviews critiquing Wade's character. I think they are critiquing autism tbf. And a lot of the outrage was over the heavy handed social justice themes

If you enjoy three-chapter-long infodumps about the same subject, you will enjoy that part of the book. If you want to revisit the characters and world, you will probably enjoy it. But if you are into it more for a story that excites and satisfies you, you might be disappointed

I wanted the third option.

Good talk. This is why I wanted to join this club.

Unseelie

Ariana (petuniarhubarb) | 36 comments Invisible Differences: A Story of Asperger's, Adulting, and Living a Life in Full Color

It's a graphic novel and a quick read. My library had it on a list of Neurodivergent books and I loved it, so here!

message 27: by Janine (new)

Janine | 7 comments Update: I checked out a listopia that has a bunch of books with Actually Autistic authors, and I think we should check it out and add the books. https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

Autistic Book Club Admin | 196 comments Hey Chara, Have you read ‘Late Bloomer’ yet? I’ve been meaning to read it and haven’t…

Has anyone else read ‘Late Bloomer’ by Clem Bastow?
If so, what did you think of it?

CraftyChara | 171 comments I didn't know that Tori from Solitaire is Autistic. I'll have to check it out. :0)

Can you see me? Is good I've been trying to get State of Grace from my library

It's hard to find AuDHD characters. We've only recently found a link between the two NDs. So we haven't gotten any canonical characters yet. There may be some coded ones, though I can't think of any at the moment.

Possible AuDHD
Show Us Who You Are

ADHD
Button Pusher
The Extraordinaries

Myrthe (myrthekorf) | 1 comments Chloe Liese is on the spectrum and many of her books feature main characters who are autistic. I love her books!
Her book Two Wrongs Make a Right has been mentioned a few times here already, but do check out her other books as well for autistic characters.

CraftyChara | 171 comments I found this Goodreads users called Lilly (The Autism Books by Autistic Authors Project). Check out her profile page. She's has made a website where she has/is putting together autistic books by actual autistic authors.

There are currently 655 books on the website. It's very well organize (Of course she's autistic) So if you're interested in Middle grade, YA, Ect. You can find what you're looking for there

She even does reviews! :0)
