I really want to read Dressed: Fashionable dress in Aotearoa New Zealand 1840 to 1910 & I am intrigued by Kurangaituku although this looks bit deeper than I usually go in fiction.

Lesley | 1594 comments I watched it live last night and was intrigued with Dressed, so put a reserve on it. Just had notification it is waiting for me to collect. Looked like it would be really interesting.

I can't say I was as intrigued or compelled by the winners in the other categories, particularly fiction. I have read one in fiction which I was disappointed didn't make it to the shortlist. I thought it was very good. Unsheltered / Clare Moleta
Another that didn't get to the shortlist and is by an author who gets very good reviews that I plan to read is She's a Killer / Kirsten McDougall
I am still waiting for my library to add this to their collection *sigh*

I'm really keen to get to The Alarmist this yr. Read Greta and Valdin and enjoyed. Also read Kurangaituku which I enjoyed most of. Not surprised it won. Also read The Mirror Book which imo was overhyped and whiny. If you want a good memoir I'd recommend Things I Learned in Art School by Megan Dunn.

My sister didn't like The Mirror Book either.

Lesley if you don't write a review, let me know what you think of Dressed!

It's a little bit SciFi/Distopian which I'm not usually a great fan of, but I found I got really involved in it. Most of the F2F group I go to have been impressed too. Give it a go.

I couldn't believe my luck - Dressed was on the shelf at the library. I've started & it is really gorgeous! *Carol quivers with excitement!*

It does look like a really beautiful book. Loved the excerpt the author read at the Ockhams on Wednesday

That's what enticed me to request it from my library!

Feel free to share anything else you experienced, Melinda!

Whiti Hereaka is interviewed in the Canvas (NZ Herald) this morning. She sounds an interesting woman with a great sense of style.

Melinda Szymanik (writermel) | 175 comments I follow Whiti on Twitter - she really is quite amazing. Very creative in more than just writing and with a fresh, unique take on the world.

Many of the samples read on the night sounded terrific. My favourite of the poetry was Tayi Tibble's poem from Rangkiura. Her first collection was fantastic.

Just picked my copy up. It is certainly something to quiver with excitement over!! The quick dip into it so far it is very impressive and I'm looking forward to sitting down later this afternoon for my first serious look. It even feels and smells beautiful.
