What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

children's fantasy book where the two main characters were turned into puppets. i believe they were marionettes, and it was done by a street performer? i think the kids were twins, or at least brother and sister, but i know it was a boy and a girl, and i'm pretty sure the girl was older. it was a historical sort of secondary world fantasy setting. read probably between 2012-2014

In The Magicians of Caprona, by Diana Wynne Jones, the girl and boy protagonists are from rival houses in an alternative Italy. The climax involves them being puppets in a Punch and Judy show.

One of the sequels to "The Indian in the Cupboard" involved this. The kids were both boys (brothers) but one was turned into a female marionette.
