Ginger | 588 comments Hey all! Terry and I will be starting The Omen this weekend. Anyone can join and please use spoilers if you would like to participate on discussing the book.

Happy reading!

Terry | 454 comments I think we've both wanted to read this forever, so it will be good to finally get to it.

I had no idea this was the 1st of a series guys! I can't commit for this weekend but you know I'll be lurking!

Terry | 454 comments I’ve heard the first 3 are good, but the last two, not so much. We’re in no hurry Sally, so hopefully you can join for the others if not this one.

Thanks Terry! I went ahead and downloaded it because who knows what I'll be in the mood for in a few days!

Dan Corey | 170 comments Wait ... there's FIVE Omen books? I didn't even know there were two.

Phew, glad I'm not the only one Dan! See you for book 2!

Terry | 454 comments Yeah, I think the first three books follow the first three movies fairly close, but books 4 and 5 don't necessarily follow the movies 4 and 5. I've not watched those last two movies, but have heard they're not very good. Same with the books too.

message 11: by Dan (new) - rated it 5 stars

Dan Corey | 170 comments Honestly, I thought there was only one book and only two movies. Didn't realize this franchise got so deep. Anyway, book 1 follows the movie very closely. Both are awesome.

Terry | 454 comments Glad to hear that about the book. I've wanted to give it a shot forever. If you like the movies, I'd suggest seeing the third one, The Final Conflict. It was an interesting conclusion.

Ginger | 588 comments I had no idea there was more then one book! I guess the (view spoiler) 🤷🏼‍♀️🤣😂

Terry | 454 comments Ginger wrote: "I had no idea there was more then one book! I guess the [spoilers removed] 🤷🏼‍♀️🤣😂"

Most definitely!

Terry | 454 comments I've gotten started and read the first 3 chapters. No big surprises.

Ginger | 588 comments I got started on it today as well. I got to the beginning of chapter 5 and love the uneasy feeling I get while reading this book!

It's like we all know what (view spoiler)

I know, right? The inevitable trainwreck that we can see and they cannot...

Terry | 454 comments I’m about 70 pages in now. Definitely enjoying it, and it has the same creepy evil vibe as the movie. But, I was hoping for maybe a little deeper dive with the book, and so far I don’t think we’ve gotten that.

Yeah, I can see that. I think if we had not seen the movie and know some of the details, this book would deliver a much bigger punch of creepiness!

Definitely in this case.

Hi! Still lurking, lol! I haven't seen the movie (I know, you're revoking my horror card) so I'm even more excited to read this.

That's awesome Sally! This will likely deliver more for you since you haven't seen the movie. :D

Latasha (latasha513) | 141 comments I have this audiobook and would like to jump in if y’all don’t mind.

Ginger | 588 comments Latasha wrote: "I have this audiobook and would like to jump in if y’all don’t mind."

Please do Tosh and so glad you can join!

Latasha (latasha513) | 141 comments Thanks Ginger! I have seen the movie & I do love it. Even the remake was good. Well, I thought so at least.

Awesome! It's been so long ago since I saw the movie that I might have to do a rewatch after reading this. I don't think I ever saw the remake so I'll have to look out for that too.

Terry | 454 comments Glad you’re joining, Latasha! I enjoyed both movies too. I watch the old one around Halloween just about each year.

Sally, I’m totally jealous you’re reading this fresh! I’m thinking you’ll enjoy it more that way.

I can't wait, I've got a lot to get through before I can get into it but I'm excited

Ginger | 588 comments I got to the beginning of Chapter 8 last night. I'm really interested in (view spoiler)

Latasha (latasha513) | 141 comments Which came first- the book or the movie?

Ginger | 588 comments Latasha wrote: "Which came first- the book or the movie?"

Well, it looks like Seltzer wrote the screenplay for it after the producer reached out to him.

So both! :D

That’s where I’m at as well. I’m remembering from the movie (view spoiler)

Ginger | 588 comments Terry wrote: "That’s where I’m at..."

Nope. Let me see if (view spoiler)

Latasha (latasha513) | 141 comments I remember when the remake came out. It was on 6/6/06 and back then I was still afraid of dying so I was absolutely terrified this whole day. I did NOT watch the remake on that day.

Latasha (latasha513) | 141 comments Oh! And I may be remembering this wrong but is Jennings played by Professor Lupin or the guy from Dragonheart? The remake. I don’t know either of their real names.

I remember the images from the movie. There really isn’t any difference between the 2 so far.

Terry | 454 comments I didn’t remember about the remake being on 6/6/06. That’s kinda cool. I didn’t see it in the theaters, but wish I had now, lol.

You’re remembering it right too, Latasha. It is Lupin who plays Jennings. And I think the two were pretty much exactly the same. I do think I prefer the original though, probably for sentimental reasons though.

No chance to read today. Should be able to pick it up again tomorrow.

That’s what I figured 😁

Ginger | 588 comments Terry, I wasn’t able to read any today as well because I was immersed in Gwynne land and couldn’t put The Hunger of the Gods down!
OMG, what a book!

I’ll pick this back up tomorrow after getting over my book hangover of Vikings, badass warriors, and cliffhanger endings. 🤣😂

Haha, just amazingly good! Knew you’d love it too.

Vickie (bookfan4ever) | 290 comments Lol, Ginger, but so true. Glad you enjoyed it so much, too!

Ginger | 588 comments Thanks Vickie and Terry! Now I understand why you both loved this so much.
I’ll add to our group discussion when I sort out my thoughts and I’ll do it with spoilers tagged. 😉🤣

Vickie (bookfan4ever) | 290 comments Great, looking forward to it!😆😉

Ginger | 588 comments I should finish this tonight. I’ve got about 15 pages to go.
I definitely read this faster then I thought.

The deaths in this are so gruesome! Damien(view spoiler)

Terry | 454 comments Excellent Ginger. I didn’t get a chance to read today, but hope to tomorrow. I do really enjoy this. Such a good and believable story.

Ginger | 588 comments No worries Terry! I finished tonight and loved it. As I was reading, bits and pieces of the book came back to me.
This is fantastic old school horror. I’m so glad we finally read this one!

Latasha (latasha513) | 141 comments I finished it as well. I liked it.

Ginger | 588 comments Latasha wrote: "I finished it as well. I liked it."

Me too Tosh!

Terry | 454 comments I just got done. Just as good as I’d hoped. It’s such a good horror story. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Awesome Terry! I’m glad we finally got to this one and totally agree. It was as good as I hoped too.

Terry | 454 comments Me too, Ginger. We’ll have to get book 2 onto our schedule for later this year.
