What's Next? discussion

My first book by this author and I didn't know what to expect. This book turns out (trying...) to be everything..., historical fiction, crime mystery, romance, supernatural, family drama etc...

As much as I really enjoy the setup of the whole story, the individual characters and the background of the era, I found the romance bit really distracting and tedious, and a bit disconnected from the whole brutal crime solving line of the book.

I am still debating how many stars to give as I do like the author's writing. I recommend this book to people looking for a read that has everything and (spoiler alert!) with a happy ending.
