Mary Lou is also approached by Bob the insurance salesman who turns out to be an American turned mercenary terrorist. What suspicions, if any, did you have about him before he was revealed to be the one hiding guns in her car? Is he still going to go looking for her?

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments I remember when I read this book several years ago, I was suspicious of him from the start. He kept turning up wherever she was, so I figured he was stalking her. When she found the gun in her car and thought Sam had left it there, I knew he was the guy behind it.

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1808 comments He really creeped me out from the start. Some strange man comes up and coos at the baby, offers to carry her books, follows her to her car, and then turns up other places? Shudder!

I have a feeling we haven't seen the last of him.

Oh, he set off all of my creep alarms at first meeting for all the reasons you both state. Again, Mary Lou is so needy that the attention is a little flattering but even she could see through him. Pity she could never see him as a terrorist.

Mary Lou is in trouble because she’s the only one who can link him to the base attack and her fingerprints are on that gun. No, I fear we haven’t seen the last of “Bob.”

Not to overlook the point that the terrorist in the midst didn’t look like the stereotype. Intelligence experts continue to emphasize that we have as many threats from inside as we do from those foreign to the US.

The whole issue of profiling based on a person's physical appearance is very troubling. All it does is lead to distrust and anger and violence. I really wish people could get past their prejudices.

Oh, Lauren, *sigh* that would solve most of the issues of the world.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments I agree with all of you. Bob was creepy from the first met. I was worried when he was paying so much attention to Halley. I thought he was going to kidnap her.

I believe Bob will be back. He is obsessed with Sam too.

I’m with you, Sharon

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2973 comments Hard to separate what I already know from what I first thought about Bob. I didn't think it strange he cooed over Hailey, I had three beautiful, blond babies and it happened all the time. Bob offering to carry her books, kinda strange, but maybe he is just a polite guy. Bob showing up at other places, okay the stranger danger alert should have been blaring in Mary Lou's mind, if not for herself, then for Hailey for sure.

He'll be back. Mary Lou can tie him to the gun, if she can get over her prejudice and really thinks about it. It's going to take her a while to get there, I think.
