Any other topics you’d like to discuss? Your overall opinion of the story?

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments Great questions, Jonetta! I liked this book, but it is still one of my least favorite of the series. I just don't get what Mike Muldoon saw in Joan and why he was so fascinated by her.

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1808 comments Thanks for the questions, Jonetta.

I'm so glad I gave this series a second chance (after having it stagnate for years) as I enjoy the ensemble cast and the romances.

Robin, you and I are having the same shared reread experience on audio. I’m wondering whether the audio contributed to our stronger negative feelings about Joan’s relationship with Mike. The first time I found her mildly annoying, this time I disliked her.

Lauren, I’m so glad you decided to give the series a shot. I tell everyone who trails off after the second book to just read the third one before throwing in the towel. It seems to work!

Christina T (crysteena73) | 109 comments I listened to this book a while back and also didn't care for Joan. Mike was definitely the saving grace of the book for me.

Christina T (crysteena73) | 109 comments Are you all reading them all as buddy reads? I just read (listened) to Max's story so I'm a ways ahead and since I read them only last year I'll probably not re-read them just yet but I'll hold off reading book 10 Into the Storm until you all get there. I have plenty of other series books to read in the mean time 😁

We’re doing a series group read in the JD Robb group.

I’m thinking the audio definitely has some influence on how Joan comes across.

Absolutely! Stan and Teri are my favorite couple so far. I loved their book and it got me interested in the other characters again.

Both of them were just so likable!

I agree. The audio is making a difference in how Joan comes across. She seemed like a nice person except for her sometimes-condescending attitude toward Mike Muldoon.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments This is my first read/listen.

I have to agree that the audio highlights how superficial Joan is. I question why Mike is hooked on her. She demeans him so often. Although their relationship is realistic. I've known couples where I wonder why they fought so hard for their relationship. Fortunately, it sounds like Joan is going to go forward with a better attitude.

Stan and Teri are my favorites so far too, although I do like Kelly and Tom as a very close second.
