We have officially made it through the first half of 2022! I don't know about you all but it went by super quickly for me; I feel like the new year just began yesterday. I hope everyone conquered their TBR's in May but if you didn't complete them just remember any books you picked up because of these prompts is an accomplishment so you never truly lose 😉.
As for June don't forget:
✦ doubling up is unlimited now as of last month so go ahead and see how many books you can manage a double up for and make this month's TBR as easy as possible.
✦ contact me for any re-rolls you need for prompts that dont work for you. In addition to asking for a re-roll also let me know if you need both a new card and roll or just a roll.
✦ its pride month! If you enjoy queer books maybe you could try to see how many of the prompts can be completed with queer books. This is just a fun suggestion and in no way a requirement of any kind. Also, for read the rainbow this month were focusing on rainbow and metallics... so if you're reading queer books you might also be able to find some with rainbow covers 🤔 but this may be trying for too much lol
✦ Don't forget to share and update your TBR's down below. its a lot more fun when we know what were all reading!
✦ have fun. I never want this game to be a chore so don't let it overly stress you. if it becomes stressful just eliminate the parts you aren't vibing with- my main priority above all else is that were all having a great time!

the prompts:
Turn #1
Card: Pick three books and put them on a poll.
Roll: read a paperback.

explanation: choose three books and make a poll to let your friends decide what you'll read for this one. Just make sure its a paperback! making a poll here on Goodreads is pretty easy and if you friend and invite the people participating in the TBR Game we can all vote on each others polls! If that seems like too much work or you don't like polls I will accept the use of a random number generator. Just assign each book a number and let the generator pick!

Turn #2
Card: Choose a book with snow on the cover or just a predominantly white cover.
Roll: New author.

explanation: Choose a white book or a book with snow on the cover by an author you've never read from before. I know people in the Northern Hemisphere might not be feeling a snowy setting right now so a white cover is also a fine choice.

Turn #3
Card: Choose a book written by a POC (person of color).
Roll: Choose a contemporary book.

explanation: Read a contemporary book written by a person of color. Anyone who is not white would be considered a person of color whether they're Black, Asian, Hispanic, Native American and so on. Also, for a contemporary book you can include mystery/thrillers, romance, literary fiction etc. As long as it was written in current times and has no fantastical elements ill accept it.

Turn #4
Card: Choose as book that has both a 'U' and an 'I' in the title.
Roll: New release.

explanation: Choose a new release with both a 'u' and an 'I' in the title. This doesn't mean both letters need to be in the same word- as long as both letters can be found somewhere in the title it counts.

Turn #5
Card: Choose a book that includes an assassin or mercenaries.
Roll: Freebie!

explanation: any book that includes an assassin or mercenaries will count for this one since there is no secondary prompt. If you are unsure of a book you have will count for this just ask me and I'll try to help.

Turn #6 (punishment)
Card: Let your partner pick the book you'll read for this one.
Roll: New author

explanation: Let your partner pick a book by an author you've never read from before for this one. If you don't have a partner you can ask a friend or family member. If you don't have anyone to ask I'd be happy to choose one for you ☺️.

Because we rolled doubles (#12- new author) we have to add another roll BUT this is only if you didnt finish your TBR and required a punishment roll. If you don't need the punishment roll than this doesn't apply to you since the doubles were rolled on the punishment turn. I hope this makes sense. I'm sure it's more explanation than y'all need lol.

Turn #7 (doubles)
Card: Choose a book with a one-word title.
Roll: A hardcover.

explanation: choose a hardcover with only one word for a title. No The's or A's- One word only.

I cant wait to hear how you all did in May and to see what you choose to read in June! Talk to you soon ✌🏼

Can I please get a re-roll for the card prompt for prompt #7? I tried looking but cannot get any books fitting those two in my bookcase.

Sure! The card I pulled for you this time has the prompt to read a book with LGBTQ+ rep in it. That can be a side character or MC as long as there is someone from the community in the book AND its a hardcover.

if you're not sure whether a book has rep just ask me and maybe I can help figure that out!

if this doesn't work I've got another prompt ready but it probably won't be any easier than this last one, lol. good luck!

Turn #1: Polled Choice/Paperback
The Hunting Party by Lucy Foley

Turn #2: Snow on Cover/New Author
Made sure to poll one that would work for this prompt also, yay!
The Hunting Party by Lucy Foley

Turn #3: Written by POC/Contemporary
The Nickel Boys by Colson Whitehead

Turn #4: Title Includes 'U' & 'I'/New Release
The graphic novel version, this is a new release.
Ten Days in a Mad-House by Brad Ricca

Turn #5: Assassins or Mercenaries/Freebie
Hopefully I can remember everything I forgot from the first one, I need this for the quarterly bingo also lol
Crooked Kingdom (Six of Crows, #2) by Leigh Bardugo

Turn #6 (Punishment): Partner Pick/New Author
I had my roommate pick my first NetGalley book
A Fig For All The Devils by C.S. Fritz

Turn #7 (Doubles): One Word Title/Hardcover
I've owned it for a while on my Kindle but I got a hardcover copy to read from the library. I haven't read a hardcover in so long, I missed it!
Lakewood by Megan Giddings

I tried to double Lakewood (Turn #7) with Turn #3 but I think it's kinda fantastic sounding, I'm not sure. Anyone read it? Is is just exaggerated or is there fictional science applied?
Either way, I'm excited for this month's TBR!

Oh no! I hope you're ok? I read and loved The Cartographers last month and hope that you do as well! I read A Very Larger Expanse of Sea when it first released and remember feeling like I learned a lot from reading it so that is definitely a solid choice 👍🏻

I believe Lakewood would be considered fantasy/sci-fi but I haven't read it. I have A Fig for all the Devils on my TBR so I hope its good and I immediately added Ten Days in a Madhouse to my tar ads soon as I saw it.. looks awesome!

Thank you! I thought Lakewood might be kind of fantastic by the sound of it. I just stuck to reading The Nickel Boys for the third prompt instead so should be good to go haha

I am about half way into A Fig for all the Devils right now and I really am enjoying it, it's strange but in a really wholesome way, at least so far and for the most part haha. I'm enjoying it, I hope you get to it soon!

Oh my gosh right?! It's a guess a graphic novel adaption and I couldn't resist haha. I can't wait to start it but turns out my library district has a copy so I'm just waiting on the notification to go grab it. I'll let you know how it is! Haha

I actually completed the prompts this month!! (well, close enough, haha)

1. poll/paperback: The Romance Recipe
2. white cover/new author: The Romance Recipe
3. poc/contemporary: On the Come Up
4. U & I in the title/new release: Luck of the Titanic
5. assassin/mercernaries: Legends & Lattes
6. I completely forgot to ask my daughter to choose a book for this- I did so well this month though so im not taking a punishment on this, I only failed this one because I forgot- im so annoying lol
7. one-word title/hardcover: Fuzz: When Nature Breaks the Law (also, I'll share the cover on this one so you can see its legit one word- the subtitle is sneaky as hell on here and I didn't even realize it had one until I just added it here so im still counting it. I also started Hide another one word hardcover that ill finish tomorrow so I more than completed this prompt in my opinion!
Fuzz When Nature Breaks the Law by Mary Roach
