The book is timely in that the technology at its center, artificial wombs, obtained governmental approval specifically as an alternative to abortion. I would be glad to see this technology become available for a variety of reasons -- but in this novel, I explore the ramifications of allowing centralized government to control these special incubators, not to mention the children developing in them.
