The French authorities are unwilling to investigate Sophie’s death, even refusing to categorize it as a murder. What suppositions did you make at the time?

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 242 comments I thought that the Bourbons were behind it because of the grudge that Marie Theresa has against Sebastian. Also, Sophie was on the wrong side of the monarchy.

Agreed! I actually believed they may have had something to do with her murder, especially her little henchman Xavier de Teulet.

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1392 comments I think I was in the dark, maybe because Sebastian was English, even if his French was flawless....?

Anita (anitanodiva) | 849 comments Because the authorities were very quick to dismiss her death as an accident, I thought it was because Sophie was English and not high on the Bourbon's list of acceptable people.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 242 comments Anita, She was acceptable for a time but she did fall out of grace. That's for sure.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 849 comments I think she was accepted because she was with McClellan and he was vital to Napoleon. With Napoleon gone, the Bourbons really didn't like her.
