The story ends without a clear resolution of Sebastian’s paternity. Do you think he’ll abandon the search now that Sophie is dead? What do you make of Hero having the Charlemagne talisman at the end?

Sebastian isn't going to stop looking. He needs answers. He may take a break for a time because this trip was hard on his family, but he will look again.

My thoughts on Hero having the talisman. I believe that there will be a fight ahead for Hero with Victoria and possibly Jarvis. I think that she will be victorious and expose Victoria for the evil woman that she is. The talisman will ensure that Hero is victorious, and possibly open Jarvis to be more accepting of Sebastian. I have a lot of ideas about Victoria's downfall.

Ooh, really liking your thoughts about Hero holding that talisman. There’s a lot to go with there. I do hope Victoria gets her due. Unfortunately, Jarvis seems to love her, which might be his undoing because she’s treacherous.

No, Sebastian won’t stop looking but I think now it will be more targeted. I see a trip to Scotland and Wales in his future.

I remember in a previous book that Hero worried that Jarvis was in love with Victoria and she could deceive him. Sebastian said that Jarvis is Jarvis and he will deal with her regardless of his feelings. (This is a terrible paraphrase because I can't remember Sebastian's words exactly.) Sebastian did calm Hero.

I would love to see that. It is going to be sad when Hero finds out that Victoria killed her mother.

I think she suspects but can't admit it to herself. When her suspicions are confirmed, I can see her blaming herself.

This will certainly be a most interesting part of future stories. I hope it's not as long as it was for Sebastian to find his mother.

Sebastian will definitely seek out McClellan and get some answers from him.

About Sophie and the talisman: I like Sharon's take that it will give Sophie strength and she takes on Victoria. I'm sure she had a hand in Sophie's mother's death, and I suspect Jarvis knows or at least suspects and still married her. They deserve each other except for what it means to Sophie.

Anita, I think you mean Hero not Sophie. I do that all the time. Characters are running around in my head for days when I read this series.

You're right. Hero's mother, not Sophie's.
