Maybe one of Carrie hope fletchers books? I think one of them (on the other side maybe) has a plot like this
It was A Certain Slant of Light! thankyou!! that was so fast!
Main character is a female ghost who has been haunting people for generations(more of a guardian angel way not a creepy way). Ghosts are either tied to a physical place or person.
She ends up running into a guy who can see her... After freaking out for a chapter or two we find out that he is actually also a ghost but was able to enter this body.
So apparently ghosts can inhabit the body of a person if the person has pretty much given up living. The male ghost just happened to stumble upon one.
The two ghosts start to fall in love/dating which is a bit awkward when one of them doesn't have a physical form.
The female ghost ends up haunting the male ghosts body instead and they end up going on a search to find her a body as well.
After finding a body for the main character/female ghost.. They have to deal with trying to pretend to be the hosts while also doing the things they actually want to do.
They start working through their hosts traumas as well their own personal pasts..
The female ghosts trauma (age undisclosed but had been married with child)- she couldn't remember her past. She couldn't save her child from a flood
The girl she possessed (high school age) - her parents are extremely strict and controlling. I think there was further abuse.. she coped by taking nude photos of herself.
The male ghost trauma - I don't recall? I think he was in a war/fighting?
The guy he possessed (either high school or a bit older)- I think he was a dropout/maybe gang related? Idk
The ghosts end up working through their personal traumas and pass on. In the meantime the hosts wake back up with no memory of being possessed. Both of their lives are a bit better because the ghosts have fixed a lot of the toxic things in their home lives.
