Pandora makes some difficult demands before she’ll agree to marry Gabriel. He went through quite a bit of effort to protect her future business and patents from automatically becoming under his control once they married. Were you aware there were laws preventing married women from property ownership during this era? Was it realistic that Gabriel would take legal action on her behalf?

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments I was aware of the laws although I didn't realize they were so rigid for the upper class. I thought it was realistic. By this point he was aware how important it was to Pandora to be successful in her own right. They talked about it enough. He wanted to make her happy in her marriage.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2953 comments Pandora's independence was a major attraction for him. He didn't need her business or the money from it and it was so important to her. I'm not surprised he did everything he could to insure she could operate her business independently of him. I was aware the laws were really restrictive about women owning property, but I had no idea that were that restrictive.

I’m with both of you. Gabriel didn’t need her money, he just wanted her and was willing to do whatever he could to give her that independence.

I knew about laws where women gave up all rights upon marriage but I didn’t think single women were prevented from property ownership. We really were considered chattel.

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments It made sense to me that Gabriel would be willing to make allowances to give Pandora the independence she craved. He was rich and didn't need the income from her board game. He also didn't want to interfere with her thriving business.

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 909 comments I knew about the law also. Gabriel didn't need her money and I think he knew he would have to find a way so that she could have her own income/company.
