In the event you were waiting until the last minute to buy a kindle copy, she just dropped it down to .99 cents. I think there might even be a bundle with the Christmas Bell if you don't own that one too.

Thanks Denis - we found out it was on sale- I grabbed it for the $,99 even though I could read it on KU. I just wanted to own it. :)

Thanks, got it for .99. I’ll read it soon but finishing a book and have 2 ARC’s to read first.

great! glad you both got it. I canceled my KU a couple months ago and I purchased it last week for $5. Always my luck. lol

Awww....you poor thing. That has happened to me a few times - I will buy a book around $5 or $6 then the next thing I know a couple of weeks later it will be either free or $.99.

yup, happens quite often. But I don't mind when the author is worth the money, and I know that she is! That was $5 well spent IMO

I didn't get anywhere near as much reading time as I thought I was gonna get this past week, but I am ready to start this one. :)

I am 14% into the book and I am really liking it!

Thoughts so far:

(view spoiler)[Jessica looks to be deep into the thick of it with that job but I am wondering why the old man Robert (5B) seemed to act like he recognized her when she first met him. He seems not completely out of it if he can say her name. Also there seems to be a ghost as well - maybe there really is a ghost named Josephine. Only time will tell as I move more into the storyline. (hide spoiler)]

I read up to the same point before bed last night. I like the way this is starting out - and I love her writing style and flow in general, so I have a good feeling about this one!

I agree with you, Denis. The writing style is perfect for me - just flows along and keeps you invested in the story. :)

I am about 50% into the book. Really good and spooky!

I started it last night and only got to about 15% as I had to finish another one first. Drawing me in so far!

I read a lot of it during the night - 75% into the story.

Thoughts so far:

(view spoiler)[What the heck is up with this place?! Secrets galore. I am trying to figure out why they keep moving patients from one floor to the next. I am even wondering if Robert is really off his rocker - I think he pretends to be out of it so that they won't look at him too closely.

The mystery deepens as now there are more things going on. The head nurse Anne I think is running the place as you don't see anyone else that is in charge. (hide spoiler)]

I have had a crazy work week, so I have not gotten back into this for a few days. Still at the 35% mark for me. Thank god the weekend is coming!

Wow Anne! You flew through it! After the 50% mark the book literally grows wings and flies as that is what happened to me. I read almost 30% in one sitting. The only thing that made me stop was "sleep". lol

Rachael into this story or not. If anyone wants to know about her story specifically in the Redwood Asylum you should read The Christmas Bell: Rachel's Story. It is very short - only about 25 pages if memory serves me correctly. You can find out how she got those scissors in her room! ... (hide spoiler)]

Just finished and I really enjoyed it, 4 stars. Very intrigued to read The Christmas Bell now too.

I cannot recommend the Christmas Bell enough! it was the first thing I ever read from L.A Detwiler, and it creeped me to my core.

The Christmas Bell was scary. I would be willing to reread it later this year for a by buddy read. :)

I finished it last night and I gave it 3 stars. I guess it just didn’t feel much like horror to me. There wasn’t the sense of dread I like. I’ve read quite a few similar asylum-type stories so I knew the direction this was going early on. I guessed Jessica’s past too. I guess I was hoping for more surprises.

I just finished it up. I enjoyed it and gave it 3.5 rounded up to 4 stars. I gotta admit I expected a bit more out of this than I got, but I do like her writing style a lot even if the story is not out of this world.

If I had read this first I doubt I would have read the Christmas Bell, and that story is fantastic! I just wish this one had a few scares sprinkled into it.

The book was more mysterious than scary - there were some spotty creepy atmosphere but nothing like her other book The Christmas Bell. That one was super spooky.

So many have mentioned The Christmas Bell that I guess I need to read it.
