Welcome to the Penryn and the End of Days Re-Read!

Over the next few months we’ll be working our way through the series, re-visiting all of Penryn's most kick ass moments, remembering all the times Raffe made us swoon and, of course, sharing our excitement for End of Days!

Susan Ee herself will be joining us for Q&A sessions along the way – watch this space for more details.

Newcomers are also more than welcome, so remember to include spoiler alerts!

Can you remember how you discovered Angelfall? Was it a recommendation from a friend, or a chance discovery in a bookshop?

Ana | 3 comments I've known about Angelfall here in Goodreads. I was looking for a good angel book and it took me for surprise. It was amazing! I'm from Argentina, the books are not yet translated into spanish here in my country, but I've been reading them in english. Any time soon I'm placing a pre-order in order to get End of Days :D I wanna join this re-read because I loved Susan's books and there's always an excuse to go back reading more about Penryn, Raffe and all this universe.

That's awesome! :)

We're so excited to re-read the series as well. We remember reading it and just absolutely falling in love with the world and devouring it in the space of a day. This time we'll be taking it a little slower. ;)

Ileana (theultimateairshippirate) | 74 comments I know about Angelfall from goodreads as well! I was actually looking for apocalyptic books and came across Angelfall, and I'm so glad I did! I love the series so much! Raffryn roxxxxxxxx!

Annabeth | 3 comments I met Angelfall here on goodreads, it was on my recomendations and I liked the cover, so I thougth I'd give it a try. I loved it and inmediatly I started World After, and it was amazing!! I read them in my kindle, but then I bought the paperback on bookdepository (here in Chile it's hard to find this kind of books, and it wasn't translated by the time) now I think I'll buy it in spanish just to stalk my friends with it until they read it hahahaha can't wait for End of Days! Yaaaaay!!!

Ileana (theultimateairshippirate) | 74 comments I Can't wait either!!
I have frankly given up trying to get my friends to read Angelfall, there's no hope for them. I don't know how they can resist something so unique and wonderful!

KimRame | 1 comments I learned about AngelFall through my brother. I was looking for a good book to read and he told me to read it. I couldn't put the book back down. :)

Yasmin | 3 comments I stumbled upon Angelfall by accident, summer 2013 I believe. I was at a Waterstones in London and I asked if they had Daughter of Smoke and Bone, and the lady who helped me recommended me (very enthusiastically) to also buy Angelfall, so I did! I believe I finished it in one day, haha. It's one of my favourites now.

Hurrikan Kathrina (hurrikankathrina) Well, that woman deserves an award. Also, Daughter of Smoke and Bone is a mindblowing series! *.*

message 10: by Vi (new)

Vi | 1 comments I discovered Angelfall through the list Best Independent/Self Published Authors. I bought it and read it in one sitting.

I know right! :D She was so nice and friendly. She also recommended me to buy Shadow and Bone and I was like ''Hah! Already bought that one yesterday at the Waterstones in Windsor!''

Hurrikan Kathrina (hurrikankathrina) haha that's the next series I wanna read! We seem to have similiar taste in books ^^

message 13: by Jasmine (new)

Jasmine (jassimplyreads) I discovered Angelfall in a bookstore and after reading a few pages I realized that I couldn't stop finishing the whole book immediately!

Serena Bivens (oasisserena) | 1 comments I found out about Angelfall from a youtube video, the plot got me so intrigued I had to buy the book. I read it within two days and had to get World After instantly. This has got to be one of my favorite series ever!

'Ironically, since the attacks, the sunsets have been glorious. Outside our condo window, the sky flames like a bruised mango in vivid orange, red, and purple. The clouds ignite with sunset colour, and I'm almost scared those of us caught below will catch on fire too'

How beautiful is this first paragraph?! It completely takes you into Susan Ee's amazing world.

Which lines had you hooked at the beginning of Angelfall?

message 17: by Ileana (new)

Ileana (theultimateairshippirate) | 74 comments “The day belongs to the refugees and raid gangs. But at night, they all clear out, leaving the streets deserted by dusk. There’s a strong fear of the supernatural now. Both mortal predators and prey seem to agree on listening to their primal fears and hiding until dawn. Even the worst of the new street gangs leave the night to whatever creatures may roam the darkness in this new world.”

Exactly what an apocalyptic book should sound like!

Stephenie (moonlessbites) | 1 comments I found about Angelfall through a book blog. They recommended it and it said it was in their top reads of the year. I fell in love with it!

Novel Infatuatus (infatuatedbywords) | 8 comments It was early March of 2013, and I remember sitting in bed just marveling my new (very belated) Christmas gift from my boyfriend, now fiance. He'd bought me a Kindle Fire and it was completely unexpected. I was always complaining that the thrift store never had any of the new books and new books were just too expensive when I had to choose between them or another day of food. We were very financially tight at the time and for some reason, God love him, my boyfriend took his commission bonus from his new job and bought me my sleek new toy. Because I couldn't wait to check out the books on amazon, I went straight to the digital bookstore and started cruising through the deals. I found Angelfall, which at the time only $3 and it sounded pretty awesome.

I read it in 24 hours and I have been lost in the world of Penryn ever since.

message 20: by Nikita (new)

Nikita I first learned of Angelfall when I was on a Hunger Games fan site and there was a link that said if you liked Hunger Games then you'll love this book. So I looked and it lead me to an Angelfall fan site and I liked what I saw and looked on Amazon and saw it was about $2 or $3 and bought it. I was completed drawn into the book. It was amazing.

It totally takes you into the world. Amazing!

So, important question: what did we all think when we first met Raffe?

Reading it a second time and knowing what develops between him and Penryn – does the scene seem different to you now?

Nikita Chapter Five wrote: "Ileana wrote: "“The day belongs to the refugees and raid gangs. But at night, they all clear out, leaving the streets deserted by dusk. There’s a strong fear of the supernatural now. Both mortal pr..."

I think my first feelings for Raffe were why did the other angels cut his wings? Was he different from the other angels? I liked how he was amused by Penryn so he wasn't truly her enemy. I liked him.

I just started reading Angelfall for the second time and I haven't seem anything different yet. But I am looking.

message 23: by Ails (new)

Ails (ailsailsbaby) | 18 comments Can you remember how you discovered Angelfall?

I discovered Angelfall through Sam (realmoffiction). She was of the best and most popular reviewers here on Goodreads and I actually discovered 80% of my favorite books through her reviews. Unfortunately, for some unknown reasons she deactivated her account. :/

Which lines had you hooked at the beginning of Angelfall?

“Something white floats gently down and lands on Paige. She picks it up and turns to show me. All the blood drains from her face and her eyes are enormous.

It’s a fluffy piece of down. A snowy feather. The kind that might work its way out of a goose down comforter, only a little larger.

The blood drains out of my face too.”

Love it. Best series ever.

Hurrikan Kathrina (hurrikankathrina) Actually the line that really got me hooked was "How are you going to do that? Wobble over here like an upside down turtle to snap me in half?"
I don't know. I just sat there and laughed hysterically for 2 minutes. From then on, I was pretty much in love with Penryn!

message 25: by Ails (new)

Ails (ailsailsbaby) | 18 comments HurrikanKatrina, that also made me laugh out loud! I could just imagine Raffe, a handsome and built warrior, wobbling over like an upside down turtle!!

That moment where Raffe and Penryn were trying to kill each other in the office, we all knew right then they were ULTIMATE OTP!!

message 26: by Ileana (new)

Ileana (theultimateairshippirate) | 74 comments I know right!! They are so funny together! Almost all their conversations made me laugh! Especially this one

"Here, I’ll show you how to use it. Let me see your foot.”
“That’s a pretty intimate demand in the angel world. It usually takes dinner, some wine, and sparkling conversation for me to give up my feet.”

Love it! Raffryn seriously SERIOUSLY roxxxxxxx!!

anjuli (pintobean) | 28 comments I cannot remember exactly how I came across this book but, it was on here on I read the description of Angelfall. Post apocalyptic, angels and what seemed like a kick-ass heroine - I had to read it. And, when I did I was not disappointed. I fell in love with Penryn and Raffe.

Luíza (luizasschiewe) | 2 comments I found out couple weeks ago at tumblr. I read Angelfall and World After the past weekend. I remembered that what made me want to read was because of angels with scorpions tails, but now that I know what they are, i dont like very much. But cant regret reading, of course.

Katerina Kondrenko (katerina_kondrenko) I've seen Angelfall so many times, I've read premise and thought that I will read it book but later. One day or rather one evening I just picked it up and start reading. It was awesome! I laughed at loud and didn't wanna sleep but my eyes closed without my permission. I finished this book the next morning and immediately start the sequel. I'm in love with this series. I've already read it in russian, in english and even translate the second book in russian for my friends. And I can't wait for the third one!

shanghao (sanshow) Wendy Darling, another Goodreads user and a friend, recommended Angelfall to me after I mentioned disappointment with Daughter of Smoke and Bone in my review.

The other book was more flowery and dreamy, this one was more action-packed and video-game like.

message 34: by Anisha (new)

Anisha (tearsofastorm) I first saw angelfall on instagram and i searched for it on goodreads and it already looked so good i dont know i just had this kind of REALLY GOD DAMN good feeling about it. And when i went to bookstore i saw angelfall and I NEEDED it so badly. Because i had three books in my hands and i could only pick two and there was no way i was putting angelfall away i had this sort of connection lmao. Oh and then i started reading it and I COULD NOT STOP angelfall had gotten me. And when i finished it i needed to have World After or i could not survive of course. So i was really lucky it came the next day. I am so obsessed with this series that i actually still have the package World After arrived in oops....

I don't blame you. It's a really addicting series! I love Susan's writing! Who doesn't? Not liking it is impossible.

Elizabeth Arboleda (elizabetharboleda) | 79 comments Got the books last year after watching a YouTube video review, next stop, a book shop! and never looked back....
I actually read the series twice! And I was just about to start again, In preparation for the new book, which I thought was coming way later this year, an happy surprise to see this today! I was instantly awake!

And with my books by mi side! What can I say, this it's the best series I had ever read! Plus those covers are just so Kawaii! And mysterious... Like Rafe... (devil face ahahaha)

I think it's because Susan actually takes the time to writhe a beautiful fully developed story, I had come across so many series that start wonderful and then decline miserably, just because of the money!
I thank Susan for that, even if I must wait a year or more between the books, I hope she never change.

Thanks for the Re-red group! Xx

message 39: by Kim (new)

Kim Giannini (kkat1518) | 3 comments Angelfall was sent to me in an email recommendation from Amazon last spring. I knew I was going to be on a bus for 23 hours while traveling to Florida for a academic competition, so I ordered Angelfall and a bunch of other books on my Kindle for the bus ride there. (I really wanted to have an actual copy because the cover is so beautiful, but I was desperate for reading material.) I picked it up a couple hours into the ride and drove my friends/teammates crazy by refusing to talk to them until I finished. XD I also managed to convince three of them to pick it up when they got home because I kept narrating parts of the story to them!!! :P
So then when we finally got to the campus where our competition was and got settled in our dorms, I connected to Wifi, bought World After, and devoured it almost as fast as Angelfall. My friends barely managed to drag me outside to wander around campus and play some games with our teammates. XD
So yeah, that's how I found Angelfall and my story of reading it!!!

Mita | 80 comments Found it on amazon. Had just finished reading Legend by Marie Lu. Angelfall was one of the recommends. To be honest, it was the cover art that initially caught my eye. Read the synopsis and got it right there. Read it. Love it. Totally itching to read End of Days.

I'm not very good with reading the last book at the end of a series I like 'cause i hate to have it all end but that's what re-reads are for, right?

Quote that hooked me?
<<"I pull on my favorite boots. They used to be my favorites because I got a compliment from Mist Johnson about the look of the leather strips laddering down the sides...Now they're my favorites because the strips make for a perfect knife holder.">>

message 44: by Wandering (new)

Wandering Reader (kberhiet) | 11 comments I had been in this "fallen angel saves mankind" mode when I came across Angelfall. Both Amazon and Goodreads suggested it based on my previous books - Hush, Hush series; Halfling; A Touch of Crimson. I waffled because I normally don't like post apocolyptic books. So when I saw it again at BAM and Barnes & Noble (that cover is pretty epic so it is hard to miss!), I figured the fates were speaking to me. I read it in 2 days, I think. I couldn't put it down! World After was quickly inhaled soon after. This has definitely become one of my favorite series. I normally "screen" books that I'm ify on by reading the digital form first. If I fall in love, it gets a place of honor on my bookshelf as a real, live book for future repeated comsumption. So guess where they are now.....

As for favorite quote, that's a hard one! There were so many zingers that I'm not sure I could pick just one. I love it when characters are smart and spunky with a little bit of edge. The dialogue between Pen and Raffe is so amazing. I almost think I could live off listening to the give and take they have in conversations.

I think I liked him the moment he broke the window for Penryn, protected her from the glass and told her to run but i think i wet all gooey when they were in the guest house.
They both had vulnerable moments in there--Raffe with his blistered feet that he let Penryn help him with , and Penryn's nightmare that Raffe held her thru. (You can always have a badass sexy hero but it's when they share their vulnerabilities earnestly that makes them perfectly real.)
When he tells her yes at the end of that chapter I was set. There was nothing that could make him dislike him or them together EVER!!!!!!!

Reign (reignwarner) I discovered The End of Days Series because a friend that's like a sister to me and she kept on gasping everytime the word "Angelfall" comes into view of our conversations. So, the curious booklion that I am, tried and had read the series. That's how I ended up making these reviews of Angelfall and World After. I cannot truly wait for End of Days to arrive in my grey steel cabinet (my bookshelf)!

I liked him with the "keep it down" quip but I didn't fall until later. I wanted to attempt to figure out his motives first. Was he just using Pen to get revenge? Does he feel the need to protect her because she saved him and he owes her? Is it because he's an archangel (and the archangel of healing, at that!) that he feels the pull to do right by her? Or does he genuinely start to have a soft spot where she's concerned? He's still such a mystery (Like why is he holding back with Penryn? What will happen to them if he gives in?). But I don't doubt his intentions anymore. He won me over!
