I thought I'd recommend this novel, which I read a few months back.
While the book didn't agree with me in every aspect, I tend to be a very hard to please reader, and there was a lot I found admirable about the work as a whole.
The author has a great sense of voice, and he does a wonderful job of instilling dread within the first few chapters (and then delivering on that dread with plenty of grotesque shocks along the way). And on top of that, the polish is of a professional level. If I saw one typo, I honestly can't remember.
