Martha, I'm envious of you having an unread Craig Johnson to read in August..... I'm chomping at the bit for his next one to come out.

Finished both of mine already- I didn't realize The Woman on the Island was actually a short story and a prequel to the Vera series (I liked it.) Black Magic Kitten was a cozy (first in series) and a fun world (magical) I'll read more of.

Lance (sportsbookguy) | 398 comments Finished Own the Arena Match Points for Winning, From the Blacktop to the Boardroom by Katrina M. Adams . Was better than I expected as most books on using lessons from sports in other parts of life end up disappointing - but not this one.

Just finished The Family by Naomi Krupitsky - 4 stars

message 28: by Denise (new)

Denise (derickert) | 1268 comments Finished The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris , gave it 5 stars. A wonderful story about resilience and love. It showed the true strength of humans to survive under the worst conditions possible. The story flows so easily that you are able to feel like you are on a journey with the characters. It is amazing that these people were able to endure what they did and come out of it with each other. Definitely recommend this book.

Rhonda | 177 comments Giving 2 stars to The Thursday Murder Club (Thursday Murder Club, #1) by Richard Osman . I liked the main characters, but the book just rambled on and on w/o anything happening.

Lindsey~Glad you liked The Family by Naomi Krupitsky , that book has interested me for a while.
The Four Winds thought was terrific, and Stay Awake was a really page turning and great thriller. I’m picky about thrillers, but this one thought was really worth reading. Hope you like them.

Bonnie | 705 comments Rhonda wrote: "Giving 2 stars to The Thursday Murder Club (Thursday Murder Club, #1) by Richard Osman. I liked the main characters, but the book just rambled on and on w/o anything happening."

I loved this book- but I am very character driven, especially with what I consider "cozy" mysteries.

Karen (readerkaren) | 143 comments I finished reading The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt today. One of the oldest books on my TBR. 4 stars, but not an easy summer read. I think this book would be perfect to read in the winter.

Good Bones and Simple Murders by Margaret Atwood

〰️Beth〰️ (x1f4a0bethx1f4a0) | 470 comments Finished The Latinist by Mark Prins Daughter of Smoke & Bone (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #1) by Laini Taylor Let Sleeping Dukes Lie (Rules of the Rogue, #3) by Emily Windsor All three were 3 stars, ok reads but not great. I attempted to start Days of Blood & Starlight (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #2) by Laini Taylor ,part two of smoke and bone, a few days after finishing the first in the series and by chapter four realized I was not invested and could care less about the character. Sad because I liked Strange the Dreamer (Strange the Dreamer, #1) by Laini Taylor and the smoke and bone series has tons of great reviews.

I finally read this last year, and I agree with you. It's a winter book.

Denise (derickert) | 1268 comments Finished The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton , gave it 5 stars. A very complex book that urges you to figure out "whodonit." I enjoyed the immense amount of character development that took place. There are so many different themes for this book such as good vs. evil, free will vs. fate, and manipulation. Overall it was a page turner and fantastic murder-mystery. Every question you have from the beginning of the book will be answered by the end, and I didn't have a clue to the truth until it was revealed.

Bonnie - I have found that I am not really a fan of cozy mysteries. I didn't know this was one when I started it. I picture cozies as having covers that I just love, with beautiful, comfy scenes!

I find British version cozies are not quite as light/cozy and American ones. I actually prefer the semi cozy :)
