Ethan is shot by Gamble and tumbles into the Thames! How did you imagine he’d survive this dilemma?

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2953 comments I had no idea how deadly the Thames River was! Surviving the gunshot was one thing, but the infection was worse. He was a strong man to survive both.

Anita, I was surprised at the pollution! Here I was worried about the gun wound and had no idea the bigger concern was the rot in that water.

I figured someone would find him but never figured there’d be witnesses who’d have their wits about them.

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments It didn't look good for our hero. I knew that the Thames was more or less a large sewer flowing through London. When he was shot and fell into the river, I couldn't imagine how he was going to get out of the water. He was so lucky that someone found him and that he had West's card in his pocket.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2953 comments That was a great plot devise, having West's card in his pocket.

It was a great plot device!

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments I remember reading about the Thames being polluted in another book, but I didn't realize it was so dangerous for someone with a bullet wound. I forget that antibiotics are relatively new medicine. I agree it was a great plot device.

We are so used to antibiotics being part of our lives it’s hard to imagine the world without them.

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 909 comments I never knew the Thames was so polluted either. And yes, antibiotics changed the world and how infections were treated.
