Ethan is taken to Winterborne’s home, Garrett is dispatched and decides on a controversial transfusion decision to save his life. But, Dr. Havelock disagrees and walks away from the situation. Your thoughts about how he handled it and his subsequent apology? Did the idea of blood matching come to mind when they talked about how it didn’t always work? Was the blood coming from West, a blood relative, a possible factor?

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2953 comments I was sad that Dr. Havelock wouldn't support her, but I could see his point, given his experience. I thought his apology was sincere. West, being a blood relative made it better odds of working, but still not guaranteed.

I could imagine similar arguments happening today so I gave him a pass. He was also worried about his reputation and hers. At least he apologized.

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments I could understand Dr. Havelock believing that the transfusion wouldn't work. He made his point and left because he didn't want to be any part of it. I do think he was sincere when he apologized to Garrett.

I just googled blood transfusions. They didn't start typing blood until 1907, so before that would have been hit and miss in getting the right person's blood for the transfusion.

Thanks for that info, Robin! I suspected as much but am surprised it wasn’t until 1907.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments I understood Dr. Havelock's concern, but I was a little surprised that he didn't put more weight behind Garrett's research. I expected him to help out a little.

I believe his apology was sincere.

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 909 comments I believed that his apology was sincere, however, I thought he should and stayed and helped her. I think since they didn't know about blood matching yet, the fact it came from West made the difference.
