Book Club+ MPC discussion

Hi everyone,

If you are joining us for This Time Tomorrow by Emma Straub, I hope you are enjoying the book so far.

Alice has been visiting her father who is in the hospital. During her visits, while he was sleeping she reflected on memories of moments spent with him and the conversations they had. She thought about her friends growing up and the issues they had. She thought of herself and how people assumed everything was okay with her, but never knew what she was really feeling underneath. She didn't feel her father was paying much attention to her back then and figured that to be his age and now that her dad is sick and old, was it still age? That was a long time ago, but Alice felt her age and she felt her dad's age too.

Alice went to a bar to have a happy birthday, I'm forty drink and try not to feel sorry for herself. She was drunk and tried to find her way home. She found herself at her dad's home. She was flashing back when her dad was there and he was wishing her her a happy 16th birthday. Alice found herself in her old bedroom. She wondered if the bedroom would give her the answers to her life's problems as she once hoped it would when she was 16 years old. The old bedroom still had furniture, posters and other keepsakes scattered all over. The room was left as it was when she was 16 years old. Looking through old pictures, she couldn't believe how she looked.

Alice suddenly found herself back in time. Was she still drunk? She was 16 again. Her dad was there. Even Ursula the cat was there and she was younger too. She was even talking to her friend Sam again to meet and walk to class together. Leonard was walking Alice to Belvedere to her prep class. She didn't realize how much she enjoyed walking with her dad. She ran into Tommy at the school office. They said they would see each other at the party.

Alice has turned 40. She is feeling alone and finds herself at the bar. She has had alittle too much to drink and goes to her dad's place. Alice goes to her old bedroom and memories. She suddenly finds herself 16 again, with her father who is also younger. What has happened to Alice? Did she go back in time? or is she imagining it? She sees old friends, Tommy? She is supposed to meet up with Sam to go to party. What is going to happen there? What does this all mean?
