The County Library discussion

In honor of all the road trips going on right about now, the book for August is Travels with Charley: In Search of America by John Steinbeck

John Steinbeck, with his standard size poodle, Charley, go on the road to rediscover America. Along the way, Steinbeck ponders the reality of his view of America versus the view of America that you or I may have. He wonders if the past is really better, or is the present really better?

I put the audio on hold, but we'll see if it comes in earlier than expected.
I don't think I've read any Steinbeck, but I grew up with a poodle (miniature though, not standard) and I like road trips, so I'm in. Just might take a little while.

I have enough already on my reading plate so I won't be joining.

Well I made it to 4th in line waiting for this one.... still about two weeks out though...

I hope you enjoy it when you finally get it. Charley is a well drawn character in the book, and with all the changes to America from his younger days that Steinbeck noted in his travels, I wonder what he would make of America now.
