Challenge Books - Autumn 2022

This season we are reading books about horse and pony breeds.
The inspiration came from reading a book about Shetland ponies, following closely after one about miniature horses. I enjoyed those so much and learned lots.
Fiction books about particular breeds usually describe the characteristics and origin of that kind of horse or pony.
Mini Horse, Mighty Hope: How a Herd of Miniature Horses Provides Comfort and Healing
The Ponies at the Edge of the World: A Story of Hope and Belonging in Shetland

I have finished The Ponies At The Edge of The World, about the Shetland pony.
I also just finished The Last Wild Horses
This is an adult read about the Mongolian Takh, or Przewalski's Horse. Set in past, just-gone present, and a dystopian future. While it's a novel, the story is based around actual situations.

Anyone who wants to read factual books about horse breeds might try the Doring Kindersley (now DK) new book.
Horses & Ponies
This is a good fun and beautiful book suitable for any age.
Horse and Pony Colours: Which one would you choose?
And this looks like a really nice book by a Group author.

I've had a great question. Do donkeys and mules count as breeds? For the purpose of this challenge, they certainly could. Both donkey and mule have at times been bred for specific purposes.

I have finished reading a YA western adventure,
Pony
The eponymous Pony is an Arabian imported to Ohio in 1860.

I read the DK Horses book which included several different breeds and showed the donkeys and asses including a mule and a hinny. Also riding and draught breeds, plus the Przewalski's horse. So if you would like to learn a little about any of the breeds you could count that book. This is clear and colourful, and suitable for young people, or those who don't know too much about horses but are keen to learn.

Pony of the Americas was one of the breeds mentioned in the DK book. Here is the first fiction book to be written about this breed. This is a wonderful read.

Another Appaloosa book for YA readers:
Appaloosa Summer
I have just bought one to read for the challenge,

If you would like a book about a draught breed, Renti is a Haflinger in the Austrian Alps. This is a fantasy book and an amazing read.

You will be asked which shelf the books to read are on. If you say horse and you do not have a horse bookshelf, Goodreads will put one in to your personal list of shelves.
When you complete a read you have placed on that shelf Goodreads sees the progress.
Now the challenge registers that you have read some of the books.
You might decide to name it challenge shelf so it would be used for challenges in any other Group too.
Tell us your titles in this thread.
Authors are allowed to mention their own suitable books, as they could read their own books for this challenge.
