Is there a type of food people like? Should we do a funny name?
There's a cafe/bakery in my town called Pied Out. It makes such good pies and scones and cinnamon buns and so many other delicious items.

Maybe if our team is Called Life of Pie a Pie Kinda restaurant name would be fitting.....
Pretty Baked (Kidding) lol (its a fun one)
Topped with Sugar?
Savory Crusts?
Honestly im happy with any name you guys come up with!
Has any of you played this before? im trying to familiarize myself with the game a little

It’s dessert-y but also allows for all kinds of food since we need to serve everything

Can you all request access to the sheet? Then we can all add our books when we read them.

Also, was thinking we should try and get a sixth person. We know that the first month is capped at 80 but we don't know what the next two are.
Also, I've never done this before but I love reading challenges.

Hi Mahi,
Where do I go to request access to the spreadsheet?

If you click on the blue View Only button on the sheet a little thing pops up that has a request access button. And the mods will add you when they see it.
Or you can put your email here/send it to me and I can add you to the sheet!

The next two months are 90 and 100, unless things have changed from last time.
So yes, we should keep a lookout for new people on the Find a Team thread.

Books that we start September 1st and onward count.

Sounds good.

in tower teams the Larger the page count the more points we got? i wasnt sure if the same applied here?

There's 10 points for every book no matter the size.
But if the book is bigger we're allowed to use more scavenger words/letters for spell-it-out from it and there's 2 points per each of those. Also that lets us make more meals which each earn points.
So yep, larger books good.
I'm writing up a little "rules but simpler" post. It's getting longer than I expected so hopefully it's still useful, but trying to make this easier for everyone :)

thanks hun would be greatly appreciated

Read a book.
- Look out for food words.
- If you can reasonably record all of them, that’s great. If not, don’t sweat it. Just note like 5-10 food words with page # and try to include the high point ones (vinegar, chicken, rice, spices, desserts, drinks). See below for limitations.
Enter the book into the Books Read sheet.
- Rule of thumb for the whole spreadsheet: if the column’s colored green, you don’t need to fill it yourself, the formulas will take care of it.
- Don’t enter duplicate book names. The formulas get angry. If you read a book someone else has read, just add your name to the end of it (like Harry Potter Mahi).
- Col H: A book can be used to get scavenger words OR spell it out letters. We can’t mix and match. If there were not a lot of food words, you can select spell it out or if it was nonfiction with little spell it out potential you can select scavenger. But it’s up to you and we can change it later if needed.
- Col I: potential spell it out letters - first letter of title, author first/last name, character names, audiobook narrator, translator
- Col I: potential scavenger words - Col M tells you which meal categories can be made with this book based on page length (50 pgs < fresh < 160 pgs < fresh or frozen < 500 pgs < any). So don’t bother scavenging food words outside of that (ex: desserts and drinks other than coffee/tea if you’re not reading a 500+ word book)
Make meals in the Kitchen sheet.
- We get a certain number of scavenger words or spelling letters per book based on page length: 50 pgs < 2 < 160 pgs < 4 < 300 pgs < 8 < 500 pgs < 12. You can see how many we have for a book at Col J. More importantly you can see how many we have LEFT in Col L.
- You can combine these words/letters to make a meal. See the Meal Info sheet for what each meal requires.
- Example: Circe contains fish and salt. Six of Crows contains potato and lemon. This can make Fish and Chips!
- Example 2: Six of Crows (S), has a character named Inej (I). Frankenstein (F) has a character named Henry (H). We can spell FISH and make Fish and Chips!
- Put this info in the Kitchen sheet - each word/letter is a row. Add justification for each word (just the page/chapter/% it’s from) or letter (title/character/author, etc). IF you have all ingredients for the meal, put “yes” in Col L next to the meal number.
- We need to make some of every meal because when we get customers later each type only eats some kinds of meals.
- Write meal descriptions in the Shop Front sheet. This seems to be just for fun and doesn’t have points attached, for now.
I added some random examples to the sheet that you can look at. Doing that is how I figured out how all of this worked, so I super encourage ya'll to enter random books in and see how it works!

I think each of us definitely needs to do the first two sections (reading books and entering them with their info) but we can all work together on the meals.

I am having to isolate from 2nd to 5th so should be able to get a lot read to help out. :)
All dependant on the Mods for now, :/

However for the meals that have a minimum of 1-2 we should only do scavenger because it would be a waste to use more slots to spell it out:
FRESH Coffee Min 1, Max 6
FRESH Tea Min 2, Max 4
DDC Alcoholic Drink Min 1, Max 5
DDC Dessert Min 1, Max 5
DDC Non-Alc Drink Min 1, Max 5

Cool will aim for scavenger then where I can. :)
If anyone is in to fantasy reads and hasn't read Legends & Lattes it is a really fun read and coffee is everywhere with some other food stuffs, nuts spices and the likes mentioned throughout. I can't reread it sadly as it is less than 6 months, 350ish pages so good for 8 items if I am correct.
Sadly while I am in the team I can't edit the worksheet. Is it only Jax and Mahi who can?

Any drinks (other than coffee and tea) and desserts!

You can request access on the sheet but I don’t know when the mods will check it, they haven’t given anyone but me access yet (and I submitted the initial form). It would be much faster for you or anyone else in the team to send your email here or in PM and I’ll add you.

I don't understand this part. Are we seeing read a book of 510 pages that has a bunch of mentions of dessert/dessert ingredients? I'm not sure I understand the strategy here.
Also, is our goal to make as many dishes as we can with the minimum number of ingredients so that we can cover as many customers as possible?

None of the books can be used to make the DDC (desserts, drinks, and cocktails) meal category unless they have 500+ words. And these are nice to have because they are worth 20 points each and can be made with just one scavenger word. (the best ratio of all the foods). Also the long books let us use 12 scavenger words/spell out letters.
So it’s good if more of us read some long books. But it’s not required.

I’ll take a look at how to maximize points tonight.

page 209 I have "I'll have a coke"
sorry just popping this here as they don't eat or drink much if memory serves me correctly, so if i could Have coke for this one it would be great

We can all reuse books and the words in them so you don’t need to worry about reserving anything :)
