Okay so the prologue for this book is pretty short but it certainly sets up the writing style for the rest of the book and give a few hints at what might be ahead.

I really like art and artistic characters so having Saevar I was instantly drawn to him. We see a little about his family, which is a nice touch, and I think it's certainly interesting because maybe we'll be following one of his children in the main section of the story (I'll be honest I have no idea yet!)
I liked the sound of the Prince too. I got the vibe that he's a pretty decent character and that people seem to like him (or at lease Saevar does) so the fact that they're going off to die seems like a noble cause already, despite not really knowing the context yet.

I have a feeling Kay's writing style is going to be one I will like, and I will be continuing a bit with this today :D

RachelvlehcaR (charminggirl) It is a short prologue but it does say a lot in the little bit we are given.

I liked Saevar and his prince Valentin. They seem to be good friends. They know each others family and they seem to care for each other. It's touching that Saevar was wanting to cry for having to leave his family but didn't want to have it mistaken for weakness in front of Valentin.

It sure seems bleak that they are just accepting to go off and die in battle. I for sure see some high fantasy elements heading our way with the talk of the terrible King of Ygrath and his sorcery. I'm interested to see what happens.

I just got my copy today and I'm excited to going on this on. I've been meaning to read it for a while.
