Lena (madworld) | 232 comments Hello! This thread is for Love on the Brain.

As some of us are quite excited to read this one, we've agreed to give it only 2 weeks, starting on Monday 29th August.

As always, everyone is welcome to join in - we usually read the chapters during the week and comment on what we've read on the weekend, but if you feel like saying something on let's say Wednesday - then Wednesday it is :)

The first 50% is up until chapter 14, so...

week 1: beginning - chapter 13
week 2: chapter 14 - end.

Is that okay with everyone?

LC Cardadeiro | 232 comments Ugh, mine says arriving Tuesday, 9/13. Gonna be way late 🤦🏻‍♀️

Caylee G. | 3 comments Hello! I just joined the group a little bit ago but I already have my copy downloaded. I’m looking forward to reading it!

Anna A. Lane (annaalane) | 119 comments Welcome Caylee! We’re happy to have you join us 😁

Caylee G. | 3 comments Thank you so much! I’m so happy to be here! 😊

Lena (madworld) | 232 comments 13th is a bit far away, considering we're supposed to finish it by then 😅 No point starting it now then, wouldn't be fair.
I don't mind waiting for all of you to get your copies, we can read something else or just wait and not read anything, up to you 😉

LC Cardadeiro | 232 comments Ok I’m trying to cancel it then just do audiobook but I gotta wait to see if they accept it and refund my $. Hopefully I’ll know by Monday 🤞🏻

message 10: by LC (new) - rated it 2 stars

LC Cardadeiro | 232 comments Update: I got a refund then ordered it from Amazon. So it should be here Wednesday or later. So we can start next week still. I’ll be able to catch up since I have no life 🤪

Anna A. Lane (annaalane) | 119 comments I ordered a new copy as well. They say it should arrive on Tuesday. If they both arrive I’ll just return one of them

Anna A. Lane (annaalane) | 119 comments Yes! I can’t wait to read this book! Of there’s anything I can do not to have to postpone reading it, I’m doing it!

LC Cardadeiro | 232 comments My book has arrived! Happy reading everyone!

message 15: by LC (new) - rated it 2 stars

LC Cardadeiro | 232 comments I read the first chapter of love on the brain and I’m already lost. Lots of characters introduced and science stuff. Gah! Hope it gets better

message 16: by Lena (new) - rated it 3 stars

Lena (madworld) | 232 comments I've only read the first chapter too. It's a slow beginning, true, but I'm sure it'll pick up at some point :)

message 17: by LC (new) - rated it 2 stars

LC Cardadeiro | 232 comments I’m on page 100 now and it’s starting to move now but no romance yet. It’s been boring so far. Science stuff is hard for me to follow. How’s it going for you guys??

Stacey | 8 comments Hey everyone! I'm new to this group and just downloaded the book (audiobook version) yesterday. Just got to chapter 9 and agree that it's definitely slow going for for the first few chapters.

Anna A. Lane (annaalane) | 119 comments My copy arrived last night! School year has just started, so I hope to start reading tonight!

message 20: by Lena (new) - rated it 3 stars

Lena (madworld) | 232 comments I've finished the first half.
Yeah, it's definitely a bit slow and there's more science talk than romance. The general idea for the story seems a bit silly... As important as it might be for the science - it's all about building a helmet! I'm not getting lost, but I'm a little disappointed and I feel like I know exactly what's coming next... 😒
I can't say that I'm not enjoying it, though, and there should be more action in the 2nd half. Also, chapter 13 ends in the middle of a scene and it was a struggle to stop reading 😅

LC Cardadeiro | 232 comments Ok I finished the first half. All I keep thinking is Lean Cuisine is now vegan…maybe some are. I never knew. Anyway, that’s all I got, lol

Stacey | 8 comments Just finished the first half today. I agree that it's easy to guess what is coming next - so far it has a predictable plot. Science talk usually doesn't bother me however this has a lot, most of which isn't interesting. Fortunately, it does improve and I'm excited for the rest of the book.

Rachel Stefan | 1 comments I'm so excited!! I haven't received my copy yet but this has been such an anticipated read for me!!

message 24: by Anna (new) - rated it 4 stars

Anna A. Lane (annaalane) | 119 comments I needed an entire week to finish the first half of this book, which has nothing to do with the book itself. My first week back in school has been hectic and tiresome.

After sneaking a peak at your findings, I was a bit weary of the science talk. But, when reading, it didn't bother me. In fact, I think the constant comparisons to Marie Curie, gave me a little insight into Bree.

I love Bree and Levi and their banter. I like how they (like all people do) take bits of information and create their own truth, which is totally understandable.

I agree that it all is a bit predictable and we all can think who shmac is, but for me, that's the joy of reading romance. We all know how it's going to end, and we can all figure out how some things are going to evolve and turn out. But I'm waiting for that unexpected plot twist that surprises me.

I think it's cute how Levi is taking care of Bree, constantly. Especially now at the congress. Can't wait to see how it unfolds with Annie and Tim.

LC Cardadeiro | 232 comments So I just read chapter 14 and it just totally picked up! Cutesy flirting going on 🥰

message 26: by LC (new) - rated it 2 stars

LC Cardadeiro | 232 comments Ok so I finished. It was touch and go. I wanted to DNF twice. It picks up then go back to all lab stuff then picks up again. I wouldn’t exactly call this a romance novel. All in all I’m not recommending the book to anyone. The ending was cute though because I like cats, lol. 😻😻

message 27: by Lena (new) - rated it 3 stars

Lena (madworld) | 232 comments Finished it this morning... I have mixed feelings about the whole book. On one hand, I like the romance part of it (despite how unrealistic Levi's character is) - the banter was very entertaining and just funny, which is great. On the other hand, there was quite a few boring moments and long paragraphs that I felt like skimming through, and it wasn't even the science talk, but just general narrative, and that's bad.
well, I gave it 3 stars. I wanted this book tonbe much better than that, but in my opinion it wasn't. I agree with Laurette - it's an OK read but not good enough to be recommended...

message 28: by Anna (new) - rated it 4 stars

Anna A. Lane (annaalane) | 119 comments I finished the book on Monday and needed to think about what I thought for a while.

I share the mixed feelings. I loved Bee and the diverse mix of side characters which I believe were nicely developed for side characters. They had their own story. I missed Levi’s story, though.

For me, Ali’s writing style (the pace, tone) reads really nicely. Sure the science bits read a bit slower for me (not a Beta girl) but they didn’t bother me.

I think this books biggest obstacle for we was how much I loved the Love Hypothesis. The danger of comparing the two loomed around every corner with every turning page.

I’d give the story 3,5 stars (which unfortunately cannot be done on Goodreads).

Stacey | 8 comments I just finished the book over the weekend and I have mixed feelings as well. The second half does pick up with some fun/interesting chapters, but I agree with Laurette on how it was touch and go. It would get exciting at points and then go right back to "bleh". I just feel it ended poorly, less like a romance novel and more like an episode of Scooby Doo. I actually laughed out loud at some of the dialogue between the main protagonist and the revealed antagonist. Overall a decent read...wouldn't recommend though.
