I'm really looking forward finally picking up this famous book

Shorter than I expected, this is on my short list.

I listened to this audiobook. Wow, it was a powerful book. Succinct and riveting. It tore the veil from the realities of war.

I particularly liked the section in which Paul is home on leave answering his mother and other acquaintance's questions - how he responded in his own head and then altered his response to what would placate the other party. The alternate narrative that our children give us is such a known experience for parents, but och, to see it laid bare in this horrible situation. So terrible for both parties.
