Maybe it was taking a gander at history, or maybe that I (Matt Orlando) knew someday that I would die, and I was terrified of not really living, or that I never went along with the crowd but watched things as they unfolded, knowing ultimately that it wasn’t going to stay great forever, or more than likely, it was a combination of all of these that spurned me on to write the Truncated series. Years before the pandemic, I saw it coming. It was not if, it was when. I saw the severe drought on the West Coast encroaching from a mile away. Since I was a little kid, it just rained less and less. Nothing magical there.
I saw the rising tide of partisanship and the groups spreading farther apart as though forming new religions. I also read postapocalyptic books where zombies ravaged, nukes exploded, or aliens went full savage on us, but what I knew deep down was that we didn’t need for any of that to happen. We are quite capable of going full batshit crazy on ourselves.

Hence, Truncated: Apocalyptic and Loving It!.
