“I’ve noticed we don’t listen to each other’s stories. We need to tell our story. Someone will start saying, ‘Well, I was such-and-such,’ and the other person will interrupt and talk over and say, ‘Well, I was so-and-so.’ The shock, in many ways, is still embedded in our memories that this thing happened on our shores, in the places where we felt the safest.”

Our individual stories are important to us as 9/11 had such an impact on our lives and took such an emotional toll, that talking about it or watching news clips can still bring tears to my eyes and I am not alone in it.

I thought that enough time had elapsed for me to read Graff's book The Only Plane in the Sky: An Oral History of 9/11. There were those moments when I was crying.

What I appreciated about this book is that it told the individual's own stories in a chronological order throughout the day and beyond. It shifted between NYC, Washington DC and other sites as this happened throughout the day.

the participants expressed feelings of fear and confusion as we all felt throughout the day.

Because so many people were included in this book, there were times when I had difficulty keeping track of who was who.

This is an excellent account of 9/11 and I would encourage all who are interested to read it. It would be an excellent resource for those who were too young to remember.

It did clarify some things, I was confused about all these years later, like what was Bush doing on that day.
