The audio book for HIDE AND SEEK is now live on Audible

For museum curator Andrew Allison, the sleepy little Maine village of Safehaven has always lived up to its name—until now. Fleeing an abusive relationship, Andy has returned to Safehaven for a few weeks while he figures out the future and helps his elderly Uncle Cuthbert run his antiques shop. But when Andy arrives, he learns Uncle Cuthbert is in the hospital, critically injured, the victim of a late-night break-in.
Worse, one of the first messages on the shop’s answering machine is from Marcus, Andy’s ex, demanding to know Andy’s whereabouts.
Nor does the bad news stop there. It seems whoever broke into Time in a Bottle is still looking for that mysterious whatever. Something they didn’t find the first time. Something they now believe Andy has.
Something worth killing for?
The good news is former bad boy Quinn Rafferty, Andy’s high school crush, is back in town and interested in renewing their acquaintanceship.
Quinn is not a man to run from things that go bump in the night, be they mysterious midnight prowlers or a relationship-shy, fish-out-of-water museum curator.
But Quinn has a few secrets of his own…

thankfully there's a 5 star review as well to even it out...
I can't wait as well!!

She's probably miffed that it's not out yet. Or she just doesn't like me.

God. I really am trying! There are just so many disruptions right now. I don't know if it's just...I've reached the age where a lot of stuff is reaching maxium velocity--health stuff, aging parents, changing circumstances--I keep hoping everything is going to even out again. But when? When is life going to settle into something conducive to a regular work schedule and hitting deadlines?
Sometimes I feel like it's a miracle I've managed to get ANYTHING done this year.

I was sitting at around 2K at the start of yesterday and somehow managed to write another 2K! It's been very slow going.
My minimum daily WC is 500 words now. lol. If I do that, I will not reach 50K within my lifetime, but at least I can say I wrote every day and was consistent.
You've got this! Whenever you find the time or the energy to start, you'll find those words flowing, I'm sure. :-)

2k a day even for two days is really good progress.
When I finally find the time I will at start at Gaiman's 50 words a day method.

I love hearing what other people's daily minimum is. 50 words is a great one. It's a low bar, but it's also not so low as to be non-existent.
I decided this morning that I will gift myself with Miyazaki DVDs, one a week if I can make my daily minimum. There are four I've not seen, and then if I make all those goals I can add in the three DVDs I have seen that I really liked.

I started out strong, but as previously mentioned, this is NOT a good time of year to take on another challenge. I'm already doing 500 words a day on Puzzle for Two as well as working slowwwwwly on Lament for Loon Landing.
But even though my Nano progress has slowed, it's been really helpful in getting me to break the ice of the blank first page, but also for forcing me to think through the story. So regardless of whether I hit the Nano goal (well, I won't because for one thing, this story is no way 50,000 words long), I know I'll be finishing this one up early in 2023--in fact, I've already talked to Kale Williams about narrating it.

A couple of developments since this blog.
1 - I'm going to go ahead and do the Advent Calendar this year.
2 - Thanks to the very kind intervention of Deb McGowan at In Road Publishing, FATAL SHADOWS: THE COLLECTOR'S EDITION has been beautifully formatted for digital and is now up for preorder everywhere but Amazon.
(It'll be live on Amazon on December 15th.)

went live the night of February 9th (which eerily is the 19th anniversary of when Maura Murray--the girl at the heart of the case this work of fiction was based on--went missing)!
The novella is live everywhere now, including Amazon.
It will be in print within a week or so and Kale Williams is set to do the audio.
FOR THE RECORD: THIS BOOK IS OUT THREE MONTHS EARLY.

Busy busy week last week.
The Italian translation of the Fatal Shadows Collector's Edition came out. In addition to all those goodies--art, codas, interviews, chapters from Jake's POV--it contains the final exclusive AE short story.
bit.ly/40y6md7
Then the now-legendary LAMENT FOR LOON LANDING (Secrets and Scrabble 6) came out.
https://joshlanyon.com/
THEN the print edition of 44. 1644 NORTH came out.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C12D64C8
AND THEN I remembered I never bothered to mention I put together a second box set collection of my novellas.

So. Updates.
Well, most of this is old news.

By the way, a bunch of the Secrets and Scrabble books are on sale at Amazon right now to bolster the Kindle Deal on Murder in Pirate's Cove
Also a ton of translations came out. My current website is not conducive to listing translations, so I've purchased a new website but haven't had time to set it up yet. That's planned for before the end of the year, which should allow me to get up to date on all my translations. I've currently got only about half of them listed, for which I apologize. Yeesh.
But in the exciting world of translations, the Japanese translation of the Movie Town Murders is coming September 10th, I believe. I can't wait to see the illustrations by Yooichi Kadono.
What else?
I'll be at Bouchercon next week
https://bouchercon2023.com/
I'll be at GRL in October
https://www.gayromlit.com/
Frankly, I think these will be my last conference appearances. But that may just be my current emotional temperature.
I'm still planning on Corpse at Captain's Seat and the 12.2 Per-Cent Solution before the end of the year, but no projected release dates and no preorders.
Both will be in ebook, audio and print.
In October I'll resume work on Ghosted for my Patreon account.
Every year, for the past four decades, Dr. John Perry, head of the Twinkleton Paranormal Society, hosts a gala ball and invites the quaint Oregon village's most notable citizens (both living and dead) to attend. This year is no different, with one exception. This year, Dr. Perry will vie for the role of Ghost of Honor.
Recovering from a bad case of burnout, FBI Agent Archie Crane returns to Twinkleton, Oregon--and soon finds himself suspected by local sheriff, Beau Langham, of murderIng his his beloved benefactor.
Beau and Archie go way back--and not all the memories are good. Ten years ago, Archie broke Beau's heart. Is Beau looking for revenge or does he really think Archie capable of murdering his eccentric former guardian?

Well, I checked into this thread for another update, but actually everything is pretty much in a holding pattern.
I ended up not going to Bouchercon because the afternoon before we were supposed to leave, we discovered a huge leak due to a broken regulator valve. It meant the water had to be turned off completely, and since the kidlings couldn't stay without running water, I ended up volunteering to stay home with the dogs while the SO went to the conference on his own.
Which was pretty disappointing. But once the water was fixed, the kids and my sisters took turns staying with me, so we had some fun sleepover times.
It's still warm enough to swim, the garden is still lovely, I'm working on writing codas for the Secrets and Scrabble series from Jack's POV for Patreon, the Etsy shop is growing, we had my childhood bestie and her boyfriend over for a seafood extravaganza one night, and did a Barbie watchparty with my old college roommates, and I'm slowly but surely putting together the Storyworth book for my Dad.
The Storyworth project is a lot more challenging than I anticipated. My father has answered a ton of questions with single sentences that sound like he's responding to an unwanted phone call from a radio quiz host. I just don't get it. HE'S A WRITER.
A writer who does not want to talk about his own feelings, I guess.
