Ify | 1 comments Hey guys! I love discussing books with people but it seems like most of my friends don't read (anyone in my shoes?). Also, I don't know how people are finding in-person book clubs. Do you guys have any tips on finding people in your area who like to read if none of your friends do? Or, do you guys just rely on online communities like GoodReads.

I'm a bit of a nerd whenever I have a question about these kinds of things, so I made a survey and I want to analyze the responses. Fill it out if you want (you might get $25 hehe)

Shubhangi | 3 comments I also don't have any friends who read. When I developed a habit of reading in my teenage, sometimes I was dying to tell someone about the book I was reading, some books are amazing you know. I wanted to discuss the words of great people, the chilling thrillers, the swooning romance, the beauty of words but I then I realise others don't share my passion for words so they don't understand when I talk about books with such adoration and fascination. Most of the people around me literally find reading boring so they are also not intrested in my blabbering. Later on I learn how to enjoy books discreetly. It feels keeping a joint hidden in your pocket, only you will get the high while others are still stacked on the ground. painfully sober. (;

PepperP0t | 539 comments like both of you i find it a bit challenging at times. but...

some of the people i'm goodeads friends with review the books they read, like i do and we can chat about books.

meetup is still a tool used in my area. i went to one meeting but they were genre specific and not to my taste. i'm a huge romance/paranormal romance reader though i love romantic suspense. so many people don't confess out loud that they enjoy the genre

PepperP0t | 539 comments see we can talk about our 'good reads' LOL

we just have to remember some fantasy romances are also classified and urban fantasy and paranormal and alien so we can't just say, not my genre

Miss Garceau (missgarceau) | 1 comments Honestly, if there was a genre specific book club, I’d probably be down.
But mostly, I just vent to my roommate & she politely indulges me.

Ideally, each book I read should come with a Discord, Discussion board, or like a MySpace Bulletin saying where & when people are discussing. 😂

I’m a mood reader & read sometimes 15-20 books/month. IRL clubs are hard when I’m binge reading….
I also get annoyed when I actually want to discuss- but it’s more a social gathering & no one has actually read the book.

I have a few FB groups that are spoiler groups where people can discuss the book without offending anyone- I like those. I need something like that for every book. I need to be able to discuss in the moment. I hate waiting & gathering notes. That’s what review time is for.

And yes… “Well, Auntie- my preferred genre is Spicy Fae/Smutty Fantasy & Erotic Mythology… got any recs for me??” 😂😂😂 It’s why I have KU so no one can judge me by the awful book covers. 🫣🤭🤫

LongDraw | 4 comments I live in a city of more than 300,000, yet I'm unable to find a book Club to introduce the book I'm writing to. Talk about mission impossible!
