One Point Tasks

1.2 MACABRE & EERIE
When I think of the Macabre & Eerie, Edgar Allen Poe comes to mind. He's world famous for Macabre tales of horror, practically invented the genre of Gothic literature, and his credited with inventing the detective fiction genre.
• Read a book with MPG: HORROR or MPG: GOTHIC.
🎃BONUS POINT: If there is a character that is a detective (give his/her name).


1.3 OCTOBER BIRTHDAYS
This month Nora Roberts (10th) and Anne Tyler (25th) celebrate their birthdays.
Read a book whose Author's first name begins with either A, N, E, O, R
and their last name begins with either T, Y, L, E, R, O, B, S.

1.4 (Amber's Task) MC FISH MARKET: CLAMS

Choose one of the following:

a) New England clam chowder is thick, creamy, and milky-white. Manhattan clam chowder is tomatoey, brothy, and clear.
Read a book with a white or red cover.

Read a book with a AUTUMN - LOOKING cover (show cover) -OR- read a book whose MC first name starts with a letter in CORN.

1.6 READING THROUGH THE ALPHABET: LETTER Z
Read a book that starts with the Letter Z (exclude A, An, The)

🎃BONUS POINT: Read another book that has a Z anywhere in the title. e.g. Strands of Bronze and Gold, Death by the Dozen

1.7 (Tessa's Task) HAPPY BIRTHDAY, NEPHEW
My nephew's birthday is this month. He is a nurse serving in the US Army right now.

* Read a book with a significant character who is a nurse or actively serving in the military (any service branch, any time frame). Identify the character and his/her role.

1.8 FRANKENSTEIN'S SPARE PARTS BODY SHOP
Read a book with a body part name (that includes organs, bones) in the text. e.g. hand, skull, heart, etc...
(give pg# and sentence word is in).
🎃BONUS POINT: If your sentence has more than one body part listed.

1.9 The Reading Jar Winner 1: Linda C
My daughter is a speech therapist working at a school for the deaf.

Read a book with a deaf character or with the letters D-E-A-F in the title (no subtitles) - can be in any order

MLB PLAYOFFS
Read a book set in a state/province with a MLB team (AZ, CA, CO, DC, FL, GA, IL, MD, MI, MN, MO, MS, NY, OH, ON, PA, TX, WA, WI)
🎃BONUS POINT: If that state houses more than one of this year's playoff contenders (CA or NY).

Read 2 Books

2.2 HAVE ARMCHAIR, WILL TRAVEL
Read 2 Books

Roadtrip through the US
This month's States: MAINE, IDAHO, NORTH CAROLINA, OKLAHOMA

~ pick 2 States
~ Read a book that is set in each State that you picked.
~ The majority of the book must be set in your chosen State.

2.3 (Pat's Task) OCTOBER WED

My younger daughter is getting married the first week of this month, so I'm up to my neck right now in wedding plans. The event is going to take place in our backyard, with a sit down dinner and a bonfire ceremony.

Read two books.

1. Read a love story or a book with a MPG tag of romance
2. Read a book with a fire or flame on the cover OR a book with the letters F*I*R*E in the title. The letters can appear in any order.

2.4 (Tessa's Task) OKTOBERFEST
Read 2 Books

I live in Wisconsin, and with a strong German heritage we celebrate Oktoberfest!

1. Read a book where a character drinks beer - cite the quote

2. Read a book whose author's first and last initials are in OKTOBERFEST. (Middle initials, if used, can be ignored. Letters may be used only so often as they appear in the target phrase.)

3.1 Hallow-Read!
Read 3 Books

October means Halloween - the holiday for all things spooky, dystopian, and suspenseful.

Read one book for each of the genre categories below. The genre does not need to appear as a MPG, but it must appear on the book's first page of tags.

Read a book with 10 in the page count -OR- 10th in a series (name series).
5. Read a book published in October (any year - list year).

5.2 SEEK & FIND: Word in Title
Read 5 Books

Read a book for every word listed below in it's title.
